Recently bought a 2004 1200 GS and at 6'3", 100kg I am finding it a bit bunched up.

The height of the bike with foot on the floor is great.

I feel like I am sat too close to the tank and my knees are too high.

Any advice on what to change or buy to make it more comfy?

Lower pegs, taller seat etc?

I take pillion passengers.

Mucho ta.

check the seat fitted is not the short arse version. Part nos on here somewhere, printed on a sticker not the number moulded into the seat base

lowered pegs also good

seat pad/fleece

Hi, and welcome to the forum, most people change the height according to their size, depending whats fitted to your bike, it can either be a low seat or factory normal/standard seat.
2004 - 2013 seats interchange
  • GS Low seat is about 1" lower then the standard seat set on the lowest position
  • GS Standard seat has a low/hi setting (most run high on the front low on the rear to keep from being a nut squishier). In low this seat is about 1" higher than the low seat and set on the highest setting is about 2" higher
  • GSA seat has low/hi settings. On the low setting it is about 1" higher than the standard seat on the highest setting. The highest setting adds about an inch to that.
So between the GS "low" and GSA seat set on high you have about 5 inches of adjustability between all 3 seats.

Hope this helps, someone else may be along later to dismiss this or assist, good luck.

Motorworks, and Nippy Norman sell lowering pegs, for your model, sometimes used seats and lowering pegs come up for sale on the forum.

it looks like I have a 5253-7 667 720 seat, which looks like the standard one according to google.
It's currently set on high/high so ill try the non nut squisher one.

To be honest it's almost like its too short, I have come from a Harley so use to a very feet forward setup

Welcome - I am 6'4" and have owned various GS's (actually all Adventure versions). I have an 08 which would be similar to your model, but in adventure form. I have ridden GS versions and even with seats all in high position I always tend to find the "A" version more spacious. If you are put off by the "A" extra weight but run a GS version with extra crash bars etc, its amazing that there is minimal weight difference between the two. Does sound like you may want to try and get a taller seat which may help.

(Can I also check - you don't have handle bar raisers/up and back on the bike? a shorter mate has these on his GS, for me as a tall person, these really make the bike uncomfortable for me and do disrupt my seating position).

Two completely different rides, Harley and GS with completely different comfort feels, best route would possibly be for some lowering pegs.

At only 5' 11" inches, I have the Gsa model and set front seat up at front, down on rear, stops me sliding into the nut catcher tank, with feet planted on ground.

Fully up, I'm like a ballerina on tippy toes, not a good look, if I have too inch forward on road.

The seller was slightly vertically challenged but nothing too crazy.

Looks like bars are directly only stock mounts, defo some wiggle room to roll the bars further forward, also been looking at risers.

Can't justify £200+ for some pegs, was hoping to just have a cheap ish run around bike without going too mad on pennies.

Currently scouring ebay / facebook for pegs, risers and seats to no avail

I’m 6’8”… 36 inch leg..

I ride a GSA stock, Seat on high front - low back ..

Ride for mileslike this…..

I also ride a Road King… just did a 511 mile day on it to the Pyrenees…. Was like riding down on a sofa..

But that has a Le Pera daddy long legs on it…

Try an air hawk on your seat pad, cheap way of gaining an inch or so….

I'm 6'4" and have the optional taller GS rider seat with a Cool Cover (seat set at high front low back), plus the BMW HP adjustable footpegs in the lower position. That works pretty well for me.

High front - low back is the game changer for a longer legged rider…

Shrink :augie

On a serious note:

Your seat is possibly a low version (for a short rider) and also likely set in low position. Be sure to check that.
With it being a GS, It does make you feel like you are sat within the bike rather than on top of it. That is just how they are. If this is you first ever GS, it'll take a few rides to get used to, as it is with any new vehicle, item, etc.

I'm 6'3" too with 34" inside leg and silly long arms too, although I only weigh in at around 88kg and can't say I ever felt uncomfortable on both GS or GSA. My arse felt sore after a day in the saddle though, but that is with any bike for me. I just haven't got the natural padding.

Just done about 70 miles with the front high and back low and it's definitely better .

Will have a look at lower pegs as I am sure that will help.
