I have swapped the standard screen on my 2010 F650 for a Givi tall screen bought off ebay. Trouble is I'm only 5'2 and short in the body with a low seat so the top of the screen is right in my eyeline and rather than dispersing the air around me at 60mph+ it hits my helmet shaking my head.

The standard screen was fine at low speed but at speed my shoulders took such a battering I'd get a stiff neck.

If I sit a bit higher it will probably be ok, so I'm going to try my Airhawk but if that doesn't work are there any other screens out there a bit taller than standard but lower than the Givi?

The bmw touring screen works well and is lower than the givi one, although they are quite expensive:(

When we bought ...

... Jaq's F650 we specced it with the standard F800 screen; it works well for her but she is only 5'

I have tried the tall screen (standard on the F800) it was quiet but i got too much pressure on my upper body.
I tried the Metal Mule tall screen ( same hight as the touring screen) i found it increased the noise at motorway speeds, to annoying levels, I am now trying out the MRA Vario, I had one on my Honda Transalp and it worked well. I am 5' 9" tall.

I am 5'4" and the standard 800GS screen is great for me. It is higher than a 650 screen but not as high as the Givi.

I use a Wunderlich Ergo on mine, it's adjustable, I'm in Clacton on Sea if you want to have a look at it.
I tried the BMW and Givi before settling for this, it's good for me

I have the same problem, you get used to the givi eyeline problem, but I find it very warm in summer as the heat from engine seems unable to escape. I use the 800 screen in summer ( remember them) but it still buffets

If the standard screen is not quite right you can use rubber tap washers on the top or bottom fixings to tilt it forward or back :thumb2

A man after my own heart :clap

The simplest, cheapest options, though not the most glamorous, are often the best :thumb2

How did you get on with your search for a better screen? I'm having a similar issue on my 800.

I have the lowered seat and am only 5 foot 6. At even 30mph the wind noise is very loud. At 70 it's deafening. However if I stand up (at 70) it is whisper quiet. I use a Scuberth C2. On my old 650 single I didn't have the issue at all.

I have a Metal Mule screen on at the moment. I also have a standard 800 screen as well as a MRA Vario. I suffer almost the same symptoms with all three and it's driving me nuts.

Any advice? Also if anyone in the East Midlands has a different setup and would be willing to let me try it then I'd be grateful.

I've been looking at this for a couple of years now - to little avail. I've tried every screen available and am now going about making my own fairing and screen.

Like you i'm shorter in stature so we can't get our head up into the clean air. Even the Britannia Mirage doesn't work as the sides cause turbulence.

Also going against us is the headlight unit - not at all aerodynamic. And i have suspicions about the beak - BMW have now copied the Multistrada 1200 beak that is smaller and has faux intakes on it which i'd suggest would reduce the pressure on the headlight unit and subsequent noisy air travelling backwards.

Looking at the big sport tourers (I'm thinking FJR1300 / ST1300 / Concours 14 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnkpM-OsyZg ) they all have smooth, aerodynamic fronts and floating adjustable screens. Admittedly these screens are sized similarly to the riders torsos which i think would look a little silly on bikes like ours... The closest thing available to these is the Madstad however it wobbles a lot and months of trial, error and deafness i couldn't find a quiet spot.

So my solution is to use a base similar to the Madstad ( http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/sc.7/category.1118/.f but smoother, less wide and better fitted the bike) then a large-ish mildly formed screen (i may even find a secondhand screen from one of the above sport tourers) will be posting results, hopefully before the summer touring starts!

In the meantime it may be worth trying to raise your seat (if you are comfortable with this) then getting a cheap screen that you can heat to mould and bend down. This will have the effect of all the turbulence being on your chest and your head in clean air. I've nearly got this working using the WRS screen and a cheap yoga mat cut into several pads to raise my seat height (it's currently being re-padded professionally so i'm hoping to dispense with the Blue Peter approach soon!)

I have a BMW 7 series so have that as an alternative option :)

Sounds like it may be worth me trying out the standard 800 screen.

Sorry I'm late in to this thread, But....................

If its of help I use a higher seat the TT touring High seat might be an instant fix with the Givi screen :nenau

I had the givi screen it worked well for me, now I have the desierto which is better for me....

Any how you are welcome to try my seat on your bike, I'm just down the A130, Benfleet.

also I have a F800 standard screen on a shelf that you are also welcome to try :thumby: :D (this was my most expensive pointless purchase)

Hi all. I bought the 800 screen from Hoghog and fitted it today. 150 miles of mostly country roads and it was great. Then a blast down the A12 and even having forgotten to put my earplugs in when I left Boreham it wasn't too noisy and no turbulance. Problem solved. I'll be selling the Givi screen soon.

Hello Littlepeahead

I'm glad you've got your screen sorted.

Now I'm not sure if you've noticed but i've added a post and Pm'd regarding the old screen that you were selling.

Cheers

John
