Hi all,

I'm hoping for more of your advice here. I'm after a tank bag for my GS Adventure and am wondering if any of you have any experiences of the "engage tank bag".

It looks as though you fit an adapter collar to the petrol filler and the tank bag fixes to this, supposedly quick and easy to fit and remove the bag. Some options have accessory power sockets and map cases.

Has anyone tried one of these? If so, which model would you recommend?Any advice would be great and could save me some money.

Cheers all.

I used a large BMW one on my GSA for my Italian tour and it was excellent. It took seconds to unzip it at the back, unclip it at the front and rest it on the seat when refueling. I built my bike to bike radio into it with the PTT button on the side and a lead to the 12v plug under the seat.

I have the SW Motech version of that on my 1200GS, is not the largest of bags, but it has been designed so that full lock is still possible on the steering. Also being a vertically challenged person if it was much bigger I think it would affect my ability to get leverage on the bars when lifting off the side stand.

Is not in itself 100% waterproof, but comes with an over cover which worked OK in a torrential downpour in Scotland.

Mine does have the power adaptor - which has a relay controlled cut out so that the electrical connectors themselves are not live when the fuel filler is open. The wiring loom is easily long enough to reach the battery (I have slack cable coiled up under the standard GS tank.)

Oh and I did get the extra map cover for it as well.

It is quite easy to remove - so if I park up I either take it with me, or loop a cycling lock through it and the handlebars.

Some pictures of it fitted

I've the small BMW one. I looked into the SW one but electrics and all does make it expensive. And it's only supported by that filler cap ring thingy. The BMW one does fit the tank cover like a glove, and the zipper is easy after a few tries.

Yeah Polecat, that's the one I was looking at.

The same one as in EggChaser's photo's (nice bike!), ahh, the Borders, ooh the midges!

It's supposed to be designed to allow full steering on a GS.

I had an SW Motech Engage Sport tankbag on my K1200S and it was by far the easiest tankbag I've used to remove/refit - much quicker than the BMW tankbag I have on my GS (and especially the Famsa I had before that) :thumb2

Does the Motech Engage tank bag feel secure and stable when riding ?

I'm guessing it can only be removed in one direction ?

It's much more stable when riding than it feels if you wobble it by hand.

It is designed so that to release it fully it has to slide slightly back towards the riders position.

I have had it come loose once whilst riding and I put that down to my not locating the spring bolt correctly when mounting it. I can't remember off hand if I managed to clip it back in without stopping or if I pulled over - either way the bag just ended up resting in my lap and didn't fall off.

Thanks Wapping,

Good research and clever links, I'm glad someone knows how these new fangled computer things work. Way beyond my ken I'm afraid.
