Just removed the fuel cap assembly which includes the filler neck and roll over valve and am now reassembling. Question is does the O ring fit into the groove on the top of the tank? My O ring is about 5 - 10 mm larger diameter thank the groove and I can't get it to seat while I'm putting the filler neck and cap back on. Any ideas? Bike is an 03 1150.

Cheers

it's swelled up with fuel vapour.

You can either
1.leave it in a warm place overnight to shrink.
2.get a new one.
3.cut about 5-7mm out of it and superglue it back together, and bodge it.

Yup - you need to either a) leave it for 24 hours to shrink back to its normal size, or b) warm it gently with a hair-dryer to achieve the same effect. Same with the 'O'-ring which seals the fuel-pump assembly.

WD40, and gentle downwards pressure while twisting the filler neck back and forth in a circular movement.

Sussed it... ...Grease is the word........ removed O ring, lightly greased, replaced O ring, replaced filler neck and it popped in like a good 'un :) Now that's done I'm about to clean what seems like half of Ireland from the bike.

Thanks to both of you - we all appeared to be posting together - Steptoe, would you mind having a look at my oil leak thread and let me have your thoughts if you have a mo.

Thanks
