hi guys, good to be on the forum.I'm Liverpool based.Have a gs 1100 had it for 2 years now absolutely love it. I need to ask a question about a noise from the petrol tank . Sounds like a mini circular saw, it must be the fuel pump but the bike is running well, any advice thanks Al

Hi
When was the fuel filter changed? if it's clogged up it can make the pump work harder. If it's been changed then I'm sure someone will be along soon with more help :thumb

Try the filter first, the pump is usually quieter with a full tank, you can look at fuel pipes whilst you are in there.

Thanks forthe info. The full story.the bike was running well when my 6 6" mate asked for a lift i'm a shorty when he climbed on the bike tipped but didnt hit the floor we wrestled it back up then it kangaroo jumped and started to make that noise. Ichanged the fuel filter with a plastic one from Halfords the bike now runs well but still makes that noise.

Mine makes the same noise, but not had it for long, i am going to change the filter this weekend see if that sorts it. I had an adventure in 02 and that was silent but my mate had an 02 GS and it was noisey all the time, he took it in to BMW as it was under warranty and they would not do anything about it as it was still working, just told him not to worry about it.
If this has just started after a jolt / change of filter, could be 2 things pump is getting tired maybe or the filter you fitted maybe causing the pump to work harder.

:nenau:nenau Are you talking about the fuel filter in the tank ?
It's a high pressure fuel system, and the filter is immersed in fuel.

She canna take it , the plastic filter will blow, capn.

tank noise revisited

Hi lads and lasses, had some advice from you guys on my fuel filter . I replaced the metal one with a plastic one from halfords. The bke ran well afterwards, Steptoe and bid den advised me thast it would blow due to the pressure system. Being skint and not wanting to take the tank off again i ignored there pleas.
Then last week doing 65 two up on a duel carriageway she died, Care of Carol Nash got the bike home.Tank off, plastic filter was now balloo0n shaped and blocked. New metal filter and she runs again.
I go down on bended knee, head bowed and plead forgiveness from the oracles.
I alan stephenson promise never again to ignore my peers cross my heart and hope to cover many more glorious miles.
