been riding fairly carefully recently to see what i can get from a tank of fuel, keeping to around 60-70mph and gentle accelleration=230 miles with the range indicator saying 20miles still to go. it took just over 19litres to fill & worked out 55mpg ish,i consider that pretty good going-anybody beat this?

Which 1200?

When my 06 1200 was new it did 50 to the gallon for the first 2500 miles. Removed the cat and replaced it with the full Remus it now does 57 -58 to the gallon (now done 12000) brim full to running out 260 (16 miles more than the range indicator) The latest 1200's are supposed to be slightly more economical than the previous model like mine!

mines an 06 gs, 20 litre tank variety, standard exhaust + k&n filter which didnt seem to affect the mpg at all much to my chagrin.
my new record was with panniers + top box-i also carried a pillion for about 80 miles, the warning light came on at 205ish saying 50 miles left.

sunday did 230 miles on a full tank two up not hanging around filled up with 21.65 ltrs leaving 2.35 left assuming its a 24ltr tank 56 plate.
i forget the fuel gauge now and just use the tripometer it works for me

I know two-up with gear but not mucking about mine will get 51-52 per gallon. On a recent trip away with the missus, I missed a fuel stop and had to press to the next one at the 347km mark (216 miles). I put 19.44 litres in the 20 litre tank so that gives 50.4mpg (it was in the ranges, after all). The trip computer thingy was showing I had another 20k's to go.

Best I have seen is 360km (223 miles) to reserve with the distance to empty showing another 70k's from reserve.

None of you have mentioned whether you're using 'regular' or 'super' unleaded... it (allegedly) can make ~10% difference.

More grist to the mill. ;) :augie

Blimey....I'll typically fill up after 170-180 miles with 20 or 30 miles range showing if I'm lucky. it usually takes 17-18 litres of the 20 litre tank at this point. Typical mpg reading on the computer is 47-48 though I have managed to see as low as 35mpg on an "Autobahn" run. Am I the only one getting under 200 miles range? My bike has done 4,000 miles so I expect it will improve a bit...

Last close call was 299 miles ... 21.7 litres...in Spain.. showing ->2 miles left.

63mpg or thereabouts...

(Standard tank with rubber neck restrictor removed)

That's about what I get on my '08 1200GS (on about the same mileage) - although I don't rely on the computer MPG but work it out myself and seem to be getting over 50MPG commuting unless I am thrashing it and over 55MPG when I do a longer trips.

I have not seen over 200 miles on a tank yet, although I did chicken out when I almost got there with the warning triangle on with it showing 198 miles and a range remaining of 9 miles.

2007 12GS / running super plus - get about 380-400km (238-250miles) consistantly. In fact, find it quite surprising that the fuel consumption readout seems to constantly say 5.2l/100km regardless of whether sitting idling, town traffic or blasting along at 150km (did i just say that??? :augie). But the 5.2l/200km (approx 52mpg) is spot on for the consumption overall :thumb.

I'm in the 170-80 range group as well. I'm a bit of a chicken, I admit, but the warning seems to suggest no more than 200 miles per tank. I tend to sit in the 'slightly above national speed limit' category but, clearly I am not to to admit a figure!

I would normally get about 215miles for about 19ish liters with about 10 ish left
'07 model, A roads and motorway. I think i measured it before as about 53mpg.

:augie regularly see 330 miles plus before filling... but then I have managed to get 32L in as well...:nenau
Oh..07 GSa..;)

I have an 08 model and run it on regular and I took a 5 litre tank of spare petrol. At 300 kms the warning light came on at 320 the computer was showing 62 kms range and when that was zero I got another 50 kms before it stopped. The tank hols a fraction under 21lts. I cannot tell any difference between standard petrol and super. roger

When I last checked (31,000 mile, 05 standard 1200GS); Shell Optimax; 70-90mph motorway stuff; I get typically 52mpg. Commuting on back roads at lower speeds and stop-start riding around town gives about the same. Long distance on A/B roads get about 55mpg.
