Hi all, well I got it done :D went for titanium brushed błack and I'm very pleased with the end results :thumb2 it's not jet black as you will see but I think it compliments the various shades of black and dark grey on the bike.

End result.....

Here are some pics of the process for those that have never seen it done :thumb

Ready and waiting....

End result again

Hope you like it :D now I will just add that the wrap has been trimmed against the weld lines as you will not get an air tight seal over it. That said it leaves an "edge". Now my solution to "seal" will be to get some plasti dip that I'm going to apply all around the edge. They do little pots of paint on rather than spray on. Like the wrap it will peel off if you change your mind but it will tidy it all up.

Definitely suits the lines of the blue bike better, the lines flow better and it looks less bitty than with the silver tank, the demo I rode was showing scuff marks on the tank quite visibly at 1100 miles

Looks good, Jon.:thumb Shame about the bits round the welds though; isn't that covered by the tank panel?

That looks excellent and I am now wondering how my white one will look with that effect ? How much did it cost if you don't mind me asking

Agreed, it looks very smart.
What make is the wrap, is it 3m?
I too have a white GSA and have been thinking of doing this to both the tank and the luggage. If Redrick will get his done first and post some picture perhaps I'll be able to make my mind up  ;)

thats the dogs borrocks…love it …..are they local to you ?

I should be getting my white one done next week by the dealer before I pick it up, I will post pics

I have to be honest I really liked the Marlboro paint job and am seriously considering replicating that or the gauloise scheme

All in £200. Not cheap and I'm sure you can get cheaper but he is local and I have used him before. Will look great on a white GSA :thumb2

Guys

I have wrapped GS side panels and bits. A 1 metre of mat black film was $40 (20 quid ish) from a sign maker....it was a well respected band of film but not 3M. You don't need a "special blah blah blah" brand of film. Go talk to a sign maker talk to them and and save some serious coin.

The more i watch it being done the more i think this money for old rope  i know i paid through the nose but when i looked at 3M sheets on ebay a 120cm x100 piece was about £70. Thats probably just enough with no room for error. You can see how much waste there was and i was thinking for fuks sake im paying for all this thats being scrunched up and binned :blast

However.... You need the excess to ge able to heat and stretch it to shape. If you buy "just enough" you will make the major of all fuck ups and end up paying more. That is jonnys top tip of the day. :D

My choice was to pay for a good quality product and pay for a pro to fit it. But i soooooo want to do it myself  :D

Granted but it's never about need it's about want the 3M 1080 series vinyl gives a brushed metalic finish akin to the original brushed aluminium finish of the tank, so it looks stock-but different ;)

Thats the MRA Vario. Its the standard one not the taller X-screen :thumb2

Cheers Jon :thumby:

Mines being done today before the big pick up tomorrow afternoon, then riding straight to the Ardennes to run it in :D, i went for the matt black as i didnt want the lighter coloured titanium, my dealer is also removing the blue R1200 stickers ( which i hate ):P and sticking a few black extras on so will hopefully just be black and white.

will post some pics if i can whilst "over there" if not will do it when i get home on sunday.

Are you getting your bike from Bahnstormer maidenhead? How much are they charging for the wrap?

No from Alton, but Alistair owns both branches. its £175 from a local guy near them, but they took all the panels off etc and took it to the shop before i pick it up.

Ok, thanks.:thumb I'll have a word with maidenhead, and see if they can get the same chap to do mine.
