I've been looking for a tankbag for my plastic tanked 1100 for a while (I don't want a bagster / harness). Choice is limited (or perhaps non-existent?) due to the 1100's plastic tank having no flanges for straps to hook onto (and of course magnets are useless :augie ).

Has anyone come across a non-bagster tankbag that'll work on an 1100's plastic tank?

SW Motech... Is I believe the only one that is appropriate. It fixes to the petrol filler and doesn't use magnets etc.

However i'm not sure if there is one available.. should be.. as the filler never changed over the lifespan of the bike. So one for the later 1150 (std) should be as appropriate as that for the earliest 1100.

is the OEM BMW too small for your needs? That's what I have and it work's just great for me.

I'd consider anything but I didn't know the OEM was still available? (I've only ever seen a couple of pretty tatty second hand ones for sale).

thanks

I wouldnt have thought so.. lets face it. BMW offered all plastic tank owners a swap FOC to the metal (in 95 I believe)... and many will have taken up the offer.. so why continue to produce an item for a diminished number of tanks that BMW must have concluded were an expensive mistake to begin with.

Available almost 15yrs after the fact? I doubt it.

Wolfman bag

Hi i've been using a wolfman explorer lite which works great not too big but expandable. Works well for me its been on a few bikes now.

Winding roads do them - £100 ish.

Thanks cartejo5
Looks neat - just the sort of thing I'm after. How does it attach?

thanks

The touracrap VPL45(I think) is the one that works for me:thumb2

Thanks Vern, but £200 is a bit rich :eek (I'd rather spend that on one of your racing topboxes) and I'm semi-allergic to spending my money with TT.

The Wolfman Explorer Lite that cartejo5 mentions looks to be just right. Just need to confirm that it'll mount on my placcy tank (no hooky things for metal tanks).

cheers

Wolfman baggy

Its attached by 4 straps 2 front 2 rear when the bags off the rear ones sit under the seat and the front ones sort of tuck under the tank.

Mines a metal tank model.

+1 for that. There are four straps- two go around the front tank mounting posts, two go round the horizontal frame rails behind the tank. Fits really well on the 1100.

Instructions at their main site http://www.wolfmanluggage.com/

Got mine from Winding Roads too.

Ah great :thumb2

Thanks for that ThreeDawg - I wasn't sure where / how the front straps attached - looks to be perfect for my plastic tanked 1100.

cheers

Have you considered the hein geriche toureg tank bag.

I used one on my 95 plastic tank 1100

mine has the removable side bags too.

I has a fitting harness which you attach the tank bag to.
Like the TT version but much cheaper.

its dead now , the zip eventually went after a hard life.

At the time i couldn't find anyone to replace the zip.

otherwise i would of got it replaced and id be using it now.

The bag was very water proof and withstood our trip to Bulgaria and back through all that rain we encountered.

Thanks Ugg - I'll have a look at one of those :thumb2

Just drop a handful of steel scrap in the tank and you can use a magnetic Eblag £10 one like me :D

I've got a Hein Gerike Tourag thats had very little use sitting in my Garage. it's too big for my airheads.

Not sure about the scrap metal thing but when I tour on my K75 (alloy tank)
I sandwich some 1" soft metal washers between two strips of gaffer tape and attach then to the tank in line with the magnets.

With a bit of careful placing, you cant see the tape under the bag

Oh and by the way Aldi do a terrific tank multi layer tank bag with loads of pockets, a waterproof cover and it doubles as a rucksack - think I paid about £15 for it and have toured europe with it 4 times with no problems on both the K75 and my R1150GS
