RTBC IV: Back to Black?

My current BMW tank bag on my 1150 gs needs a bit of TLC, and since I have the Oxford sports laptop bag already, I was wondering about replacing the austere black one with the silver Oxford sport one.

Having looked at the specs, it says that it's secured by powerful magnets, but that doesn't sound too good to me, but not having seen one I can't determine if it's suitable or not.

I really use the tankbag so can you let me know if the Oxford one would be OK for me to use as a replacement for the BM unit, or whether I need a more secured one?

I don't go off-road, so it's just bits and pieces and trips to the shops. If magnetic's not the way, can you suggest an alternative- I'd like to use the Oxford kit if at all possible?

Thank you!

use a strap on or rubber mat !!

There are some good strap on tank covers / bag bases (mines a baglux) which have the bag or map pocket clipping on top. Also got a magnetic one which is great, it holds on very well and easy/quick to on/off and has shoulder strap to carry as my handbag (ooohh errrr:eek:)
BUT dont put magnetic flaps directly onto the tank, they pick up small bits of metal -god knows from where- and scratch the paint up USE A RUBBER MAT !! :thumb2you can get em quite cheap on a roll, got loads of holes through and very light, used also for opening jar lids they put on too feckin tight, and on the dash to stop stuff sliding about in the car ( I'm sure loads of other uses I aint found yet- any new threads here !!??)

Hi there, if its of any use to you I had an Oxford magnetic tank bag on my previous 1150gs & used it quite a lot without any problems.
If you see from the photo below it attached via a buckled strap around the headstock as well as the magnets.
The only thing I would reccomend is that you put a clean cloth between bag & tank to avoid any scratches. Hope this helps :thumb

Sorry for the poor quality of the photo.

Sorted!

Hughquizzi and Dave 56- thanks guys.

So, I'll be going for the Oxford with magnets then with a bit of luck on Ebay.

Power to the forum!
