My task bar on the bootom of my screen has changed.
I have the start key at bottom left and the clock etc at the far right.
Normally (for past few years) the taskbar has been about 1cm wide (high).
Suddenly this week the taskbar is now twice the normal height. The clock, which used to just show the time now shows the date and day as well.
I've tried to minimise the bar but to no avail
Any ideas?

right click on the taskbar, make sure 'lock the tasbar' is unchecked.

place your mouse over the top border of the taskbar, when it changes to the double vertical arrow symbol, click and drag down to the original size
right click on taskbar, check 'lock the taskbar'

job done

Yep - tried that but still no joy. Taskbar just dissapears when I do that - doesn't get smaller just goes

If you right-click on the taskbar and select properties, then uncheck 'show clock', can you tweak the taskbar height?

i've had something similar...

... on previous machines. If I recall correctly, its something to do with the width of the quicklaunch panel. Try playing around with the various widths then the heights...

This si the photo of the desktop. I've tried all you suggested but still no change.
Could it be a virus of some sort?

Taskbar seems to have re-alligned itself without any effort from me!
