Where's the most discreet, but still legal, place to fix the tax disc holder on a 1200GS?
Looking at the photos on this site there are clearly some very discreet places as I can't see the tax discs at all, but few are as naff and in your face as mine is, fixed to the beak.
In fear of being pedantic.
The law states: that the tax disc should be fitted to the front left quater of the bike and be the original item (a photo copy could get you a conviction for 'frauds and use of')
The traffic warden, officer of the law or anybody who might have lawful reason to see it 'the tax disc' is not obliged to spend time looking around the bike in hopes of finding it 'or potentialy putting themselves at risk by stepping out into the road'
Therefore if it is not displayed where they are expecting to find it, it is not deemed to be displayed on the bike and therefore not paid (in just the same way as a carpark ticket that is in your pocket instead of the windscreen of your car)
Well thats what the law states anyway

Though I'll bet the local warden chappy dosn't know it.
Mine is just under the front of the left barrel, mounted on a bolt near the exaust (where the head protector is fitted to the head I think) it was put there by the dealer, in a stainless jobbie with lots of bolts.
It's covered in mud most of the time, 'just as well realy' the new one's in the top box waiting for me to get round to changing it
Oh, if I clean the glass I can see it's not been affected by the exposure to the winter roads. No issue with water ingress 'and I use the bike every day too! even when it's raining
