TC V WC, TYRE PRESSURES AND ESA

Any thoughts or advice please I'm not sure if this is a tyre issue but I'm hoping so.

2012 GSA, Annakees fitted from new, really liked them but couldnt get BMW dealer to supply replacements after 7kmiles.
choice I had was Metzler only so I went for the Tourance Next and had 2 sets over the remaining period of ownership, no issues but not as good as the Annakees IMHO, unladen I always ran tyre pressures at 2.2F and 2.5R BAR and had ESA on comfort. Loved this bike.

WC GSA .The Annakees are now fecked after 5k miles and I cant say I have liked them at all, I'm not sure if its just me getting used to the new bike (which recommends you runs the pressures regardless of load at 2.5F and 2.9R BAR) but I find it bounces about a bit much with the ESA on soft and so always now have it on normal, it seems to be much more upset by poor road surfaces than the old bike, in this respect the ride feels hard and unforgiving. Overall I'm happy with the new bike, love the quick shifter.

The bike shouldn't bounce if the suspension is working correctly. The different ESA settings will soften or stiffen up the suspension.

It might take you a while to get used to the Comfort setting but stick with it and especially in the wet you will find that it works very well.
 
Welcome to the gsa lc esa experience , mine has had a number of remaps and remedial work to sort out the suspension and ride and was fine for a while and the susceptiblity to poor road surfaces and very harsh ride went away

Thought they had cured it ,then it went in for service and after a 'service' ecu update it started playing up again, went in for a new drive shaft gaiter and when it came back it was fine . Go Figure !

The traits you describe are well known to BMW UK so approach your dealer service department, ps made no difference to mine whether it was on Anakee 3's or allegedly all conquering PR 4 trails

I doubt very much it is the tyres. As Neil W States, there have been more than a few of us who have had this problem. BMW had my bike for four weeks. They worked out that the front and rear suspension were not talking to each other and we're getting out of synch....but couldn't work out why. It gave a very harsh and unsettled ride.....they replaced the suspension front and rear....ok for a while but over time got out of synch again. Replaced the ECU and accelerometers.....fixed it but frankly I lost confidence that it would stay fixed and got rid of it.

I spoke to the BMW tech who came from BMW UK in Bracknell, after he had ridden it a few times he admitted it was not right, stuck with it and got it fixed. The UK diagnostics couldn't pick up the fault and it was only when they downloaded the ECU to Germany that they got the data.

I was prepared to keep this story to myself as it may have been a one off and BMW did sort it BUT only after some intervention by a well connected individual. What really pissed me off was when another fellow Tosser had a similar issue shortly after mine, BMW UK stated they had never heard of any suspension issues. I supplied my details suggesting BMW might like to refer to my case and revise their statement....do they really not know that we talk to each other?

So, if you are unhappy, try riding another dealer bike....the problem with your own bike may be similar to mine....as it deteriorates over time, this messes with your head. If you do refer through the dealer and you get the "there are no issues" treatment, feel free to come to me and I will give you all my details if this helps.
 
Recently acquired a 2009 GS 1200. Previous to this I had RT1200s and always ran them at 36F 42R and found it suited them and me and the ESA very nicely.

Tried this on the GS and the experience on all ESA settings was horrible. Changed the pressures to 32F 36R and the bike was transformed.
ESA works as it should (feels to me) and so much more enjoyable.

Got to be worth trying a lower tyre pressure. Tyres are PR4 Trail by the way.
 
I find the soft setting on my GS LC much better than my old 2009 GS MU.

The old one was soft, but poorly damped, so tended to wallow about. The LC is soft but well damped.

Well, it is most of the time, but it does become harsh at times, so it looks like I need to mention this to Allan Jefferies before the warranty runs out :confused:
 
I run 36/42 on my LC GS and leave it in either Normal or switch to Hard in aggressive commuting to reduce the fore/aft pitching. Soft is good only if you suffer piles and don't ride over 4krpm. At 36/42 the bike suspends and handles well. Once the pressures drop to 34/40 the bike is significantly harder to steer and wallows when cornering. Roadsmart2 tyres.
 
SEEMS TO BE RESOLVED

Many thanks to all who contributed above, bike was in the dealers today, test ridden by their technician who seems to have resolved the issue by re-calibrating front and rear suspension.

I wont close this thread in case it helps others.
