Technical Campaign GSLC Oil seal leak.

It's a recall in Germany: I had a letter from BMW re the need to get the ring that retains the seal replaced. But my local dealer had already told me and had my bike in

They did it at the same time as replacing the clutch slave cylinder (another recall here)

Paul, out of curiousity, did they tell you what had been changed in the new slave cylinder? I was wondering if they have got around to reducing its bore to give more clutch plate lift.

Hang on, and I will dig out the copy of the paperwork that they gave me

Right, this is what was on the "invoice":

Job A 0060269
Aktion
Kupplungsnehmerzylinder erneuern 14.00

job B 0060291
Sicherungsblech für Wellendichtring
Getriebeabtriebswelle einbauen 5.00

And an english translation:

Campaign
Clutch slave cylinder renew 14:00

job B 0060291
Locking plate for shaft seal
Gearbox output shaft install 5:00

I assumed that the numbers to the right were the part cost, but it is not clear. Could have been the total cost of the job, including time allowance. But the cost to me was zero. It took about 1.5hr I guess, as I waited in their lounge area with their coffee and my ebook whilst they did the work.

The Service guy told me that he was not aware that any of the oil seals had actually been found to have been pushed out and leaking in Germany, but elsewhere they it had happened a few times.

He also said that the trouble with the slave cylinder was an internal leak, not an external one. That said, I have not noticed any difference in clutch action or gearchange quality.

Hope that helps
