Hi All,

I'm new here, looking for some technical advice on a wobbly screen on my R100GS. I haven't seen any links to 'technical', 'maintenance' etc and wondered if I can post a message here?

Thanks,
Manbike

Wobbly screen on R100GS yr 2000

Welcome to the Forum. Post as much information as you can regarding your problem and I’m sure there will be someone on here who has had a similar problem or can offer some advice.

Traced a wobbly screen to a broken cast-alloy mounting bracket (pics available, not able to attach). The brackets sit either side of the headlamp, just above the indicator mountings (stalks) and sort of slot-in to the subframe that supports the headlamp, clocks etc. Have removed all obvious retaining bolts but still cannot move either from this position. Wondering if the indicator stalk actually goes through the bracket within the subframe, as that would certainly prevent it from moving?

If I am able to remove it, hoping it can be repaired though brazing/ally'-welding.

Thanks all.

If you pay your £12 subscription (best £12 p.a. you'll spend) you'll be able to post pics. :thumby:

Have a look at the Motorworks new or secondhand parts to see if they have anything, or Motobins for new parts.

Might be worth looking at Real OEM to find your part numbers. Not sure if I've selected the right bike and part section, but you'll get the hang of it. Start again on the search.

Many thanks for everyone's input. Have found bike and sent enquiry to Motorworks.

Hi Tuftywhite,
Paid my £12 but still only being offered a URL link to attach pics. Any ideas how to 'attach' in the normal (email) sense, as I would very much like to post the images and ask the community if it is possible to remove these brackets from the subframe?
Thanks,
manbike.

Wobbly screen cont...

OK, figured out the pic upload thing and they should now be attached.

Broken bracket with bolts removed can be seen at 10 o'clock to indicator. 2nd pic is the other part of broken bracket still attached to fairing.
The question is, why can I not get bracket off frame. Perhaps because it's been there for 24 years / perhaps because the indicator stalk goes though the bracket within the aluminium frame?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi manbike
To post pics 1 go to “Reply to post/ thread”
2 go to “Go Advanced”
3 Scroll down to “Manage Attachments”
4 click on the above which brings up choose file ( upto 4 IIRC)
5 select files depending on location on your computer

Hope that helps

PS If I can do it anyone can!

Having found your bike in 'RealOEM', are there any further clues about additional fixings in their diagrams?

From memory - remove the headlight and the bolts holding the bracket in place are under that.

It's a fairly recent memory as I had to replace the indicator stems on mine and to get them off you have to remove that bracket.....

Finally found out how to remove the annoying signature everytime I post.....

Oh - and it's 1100GS.

I'm not asking for any advice, but the OP is....

My apologies for misreading your post.

When you declared it was an 1100 I thought you were the OP.

Does the OP think he’s got a 100GS or did he just miss a 1?
