Tectane SL527 a much cheaper replacement for ACF50?

2 or 3 years down the line - probably moved the bike on by then...you know the "as new, hardly ridden, garaged, kept under humidifier conditions then advertised for sale cheaply" adverts. I am going to give this a go. Used half a can of normal silicon spray on my top box last night and it looks wicked! That can cost £5, so I am going for the punt on the tectane....

Oh, silicone spray will make everything look shiny and clean and brings up plastic and rubber a treat so no worries there. What I'm interested is 2 or 3 years down the line and whether it's done it's job protecting your bike from corrosion?
And, you can hardly be the world champion obsessive bike cleaner if you can't be arsed to warm up a can of ACF50

Oh and BTW, ACF has been incorrectly applied if it DOES NOT attract dirt

I went to the web site and also ended up buying some Kevlar gloves, don't know why I might need them but I was intrigued and they where only a few quid

They'll stop friction burns when doing the five finger shuffle

Meanwhile sprayed a bit of tectane on my plastic bits, brings them up really nice

If you want an alternative to ACF50 then try Duck oil. Its a bit like a thin Waxoyl but it certainly stops corrosion better than a silicone spray which will be little better than WD40.

I'm not looking for an alternative as you suggest I'm just sharing what I've found.

I'll see how it goes but so far I'm very happy with the tectane. Sprayed my engine

Casing and cylinder heads and they still look good even after a week so tectane

Seems to be good under extreme heat as once bike is hot I haven't seen any

Smoking or loads of stink I've had with other products.

Nothing better than the smell of gunk on a hot engine or cow muck on a hot exhaust. As I say, try duck oil - just because its british rather than american doesnt make it carp.

I'm happy to try or use whatever keeps my bike from turning into an orange ball of rust. Will check out duck oil bud if you say it's good

I have a litre bottle of ACF 50 that's likely to be out of date before it's used up. Next time I'll share a bottle with a friend. (I hate drinking alone)

So, what is different from a 'normal' silicone spray?

I've always used silicone sprays or silicone based products to restore unpainted plastics/rubber etc but wouldn't have considered them as a corrosion inhibitor/protector? IME silicone is easily washed off/dispersed by water?

Correct, makes it nice and shiny, will give limited protection,(observation not criticism) and will be easily removed during riding. If you just want it to look shiny then knock yourself out, you want a product that actually will perform without having to be reapplied every ride then ACF50.

You generally (not always ! ) get what you pay for......

I bought some too it is not a real alterative to ACF50.

If you don`t like ACF50 try S100DOC corrosion protection it semi sets and I think is better than ACF50 as it doesn't` get washed off as easily by road spray. You can also do wheel parts without it flying onto your discs.

When it is time to wash it off you do need the S100Doc cleaner as it really will not wash off with normal cleaners Muc Off etc.
