Just looked at the ball joint of my 1150GS, the rubber cover seems to be split, are these available ? don't want the expense of changing the ball joint as it does not seem to be worn, just for the cover. many thanks, Dave.

is there any play... if there is, its an mot failure i believe, also the ingress of crap will soon cause wear.

Motorworks sell them second hand and inspected with a 6 month warranty for £30 or £70 new...

also you neeed a huge socket/spanner to do it... about 46 or 47mm

Thanks motobiker, Ill get one ordered before the dirt gets in.

Aye, I had to get a new one after the old man melted the old one with an inspection lamp! Cheap enough so not fussed.

Only 33p from a main dealer, save yourself 5p.

Just had mine nicked for the second time.

Ball joint

This is tight probaly lock tite and needs to be done up to 96ft pounds, so do it else it will come loose!!.
(don't ask how I know!)

Are you talking the plastics Black Cap or the rubber boot?

From the sound of it, I'd say it was the rubber gaiter over the ball... :nenau

Like Dave says heat to release the nut and big torque + loctite when it goes back on.

That is what I understood, my comment was as some of the guys were commenting about the black cap.

Aha, never taken anything apart on my bike. Just replaced plastic bits. 38p is probably right then.

Yes it is the rubber "bellows" over the ball joint, Ill pick one up and have go. Dave

Help... I cant seem to buy a bellows for the ball joint! They only sell it with the ball joint at around £70. The number listed earlier is for the nut cover. Anyone able to help? Have you got a knackered joint that has a good belows?? or where can I get one? Motorworks cant help. Dave3

Perhaps measure the diameters of the balljoint where the rubber needs to fit and get down to the car accessory shop, the rubbers used to be replaceable on car balljoints, I am thinking a transit van or similat might donate a suitable rubber, mine is split and patched up using self amalgamating tape or the moment.
