The rubber covering around the ball joint on the telelever tore on our last ride. On acquiring with BMW for a replacement rubber fitting they told me can't order separate I have to buy a new balljoint.....nearly 90 pounds:eek: . It's for a 1200Gs

I checked the parts sites and it does not show a separate piece, any body with some advice?

Back in the old days (:rob), forks used to have fork gaiters to protect the shiney slidey bits. If they tore, you had to buy complete new front forks... Oh, no you didn't! Silly me! You just bought new gaiters.

More bloody profiteering from BMW by the sound of it, mate.

Hi Michnus. If the cover/boot is still all there just a bit torn and split, could try using an innertube patch. Worked on the rear hub joint gater when it split on a trip last summer, did another 3500 miles and was still ok when I fitted a new one. Just make sure you clean all the crap out of the joint and get the rubber as clean and dry as poss. Got to be worth a go. Failing that see if you can get around some junk yards, bound to be an old car steering/suspension joint with a "it'll do" joint you can use, after all its just the rubber boot you want. Hope that helps.:thumb

maybe you can buy a similar ball joint, complete with usable gaiter at a motor factors. can't see it being ninety quid :eek

be a right pain trying to find the right one though :(

Thnxs for all the advise, I am first going to clean it out and see if the ball joint maybe did not took some damage, we did a trip this Dec and I hit and killed a goat, it might be that it was part of why the rubber tore.
