Telelever removal HELP!

Little job for the evening....yeah right.

Read and then re-read the manual. Got the heat gun out in case of red loctite? But still this

Now according to the manual this should have just unscrewed (the left side)?? It was fecking tight so tried heat. No way was it going to budge and its not going anywhere now it exploded under load (no mention of it being left hand thread in the manual?). First things first I need to get this out and was planning to chain drill around the outside, what I need is an idea of what it looks like, its thickness so I know how deep to go and whats behind it before I go charging in.

The other side

Is just a fecking tight but it will turn under much duress and with a long bar on the wrench. it also makes all sorts of groans doing it....but it won't come undone?? I presume there is another nut behind the other side? Is this spindle normally full of red loctite?

Come on guys do what you do best..next to taking the piss that is and gimme some info/help.

Just had a quick gander at my manual... although it appears to mounted tother way round ie bolt and spindle, going by the manual ( not having done this job myself ).. but the spindle bolt passe's through the leading link arm to connect with other bolt (your knackerd one ) no mention of a bolt behind ..... what manual are you using haynes or bmw.

Haynes...forgot about the BMW one..I think I got that as well. I have had a look at the parts fiche, and the good news is it looks like that bit that exploded (number 7) is not on the list of replaceable parts %#$£

I've looked again on the bmw manual...... but the bit that exploded in your picture ' is just a bolt ? the opposite side is the bolt head of the spindle your second picture.. ? there is no mention of a left hand thread for the bolt. If you can somehow remove the head of the knackerd bolt ' I suppose you could draw the remains of it "still attached to the spindle" out the other side.. you may damage the leading link pivot brg's but it looks like it would work. ??


oops. my mistake your second piture is the screw cap not the spindle bolt head... so your problem is to remove this first ' correct.

Yep its part '7' in my post (screw cap as you put it) I have to get out first. Looks like finding another one may be the problem.

OK, I have chain drilled around the outside of the cap and knocked the centre out exposing the other end of the spindle, sure enough it was turning whilst trying to undo the nut. God that little puppy was tight, it broke my 6 point socket and had to take a chance on using a 12 point, got it in the end but the socket bit right into the bolt. All I got to do now is remove the throttle body again to withdraw the spindle, remove the remains of the old cap and if Steptoe comes through with a replacement part then I am good to move on to the next bit.
