Next spring I am leading a group of Americans around Wales, camping on old Brit bikes, so I am looking for some places to go, things to see, and great roads for old bikes (no A roads) this is not a speed fest.

Oh and we need pubs that do propper british fare, and real ales. we shall be heading in through the forest of dean, and Tintern abbey, up into the Brecons, and also taking in the Horseshoe pass, apart from that we are open to ideas.:thumb2

Conquered nation, downtrodden bitter people, industrial wasteland of a country, crap language, shit rugby team, unpronounceable names, headquarters of the DVLA, dodgy sexual proclivities involving several ruminant species and Wellington boots, big white balls bouncing around the countryside chasing Caterhams (Ok, Lotus sevens for MikeP's benefit :blast), Wapping's forebears, a few nice hills and Timolgra.

Not much more to add really :nenau

Take them to the lake district instead.....they are Merkins so they won't know any better :thumb2

Good idea

just drive the yanks once around the M25, throw'em out in peckham. Tell'em it's wales, they'll have no idea what's going on, won't understand a word being spoken.

Job done....:thumb2

Buy a ginger wig, stick on freckles and meet and greet them as a welshman.

Stick a pillow down your cheap blazer jacket, sing really fucking annoying songs about how great Wales is, green green valleys and some other crap about castles, then spout bollocks about rugby and sheep for hours, theyll be so fucking bored theyll pay good money to leg it before they realise theyve not been outside the M25, result :)

Alternatively Ive got a great book on welsh roads youre welcome to borrow :)

Thanks for the "propper" replies...

These Americans have already done camping in IoM, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire Etc, and Denmark, Holland, france, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, all on old BSA and Triumphs:thumb2 no hotels or disk brakes.

You never conquered us we fell over.

I can't really argue with the rest:D

Tell them to pack their best waterproofs. Wales was built by England to take the rain out of the weather before it gets to us.

Actually the first attempt was Ireland, but we put it a bit too far north, and Manchester, the beta-test is still soaking.

Although not the best riding road if you are taking Americans to Wales then ride over the Menai Suspension bridge and then go to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

Can then have loads of fun seeing if they can say it from the railway station sign - you might have to accost a local to judge the attempts though.

In terms of sites to see - the Canal Center and viaduct at Llangollen is probably worth a trip - means you can then ride the Horseshoe Pass (which is an A road admittedly)

Also agree that roads from Welshpool to Bala and on to Snowdon or Trawsfynnydd are great - this is somewhere in that area:

as is this

The Elan Valley Dams/Mountain Road combination (between Rhyader and Aberystwyth) is single track unfenced with animals and is worth a trip. As is the Abergwesyn run which more or less starts in Brecon and ends in Tregaron.
