Everywhere I dont really want to be...
Well this may not be the place to ask this sort of question, but Ive got a hankering for an 1100/1150RT?

I already have an 1150GSA that I use for general use /touring, a 1200C for sunny "Sundays" (not that we have had many in the past years), and a 80GS PD for "tinkering" and "playing in the muck"

...and now all I can think of is an RT! My main idea is to leave it in Blighty for a year or so and use it when I pop home, and for trips back in the UK (Ive been planning a Scotland trip for some time now - Its just 1000 miles home to Manchester before I even begin)

How much different are they, or are they too similar to a GSA. At the mo. I dont really want to go out and test one, make a hasty "it's new and shiny" decision and regret it later on...

I dont want to get rid of my GSA, or my PD. Maybe the 12C could go (its more of a garage queen with less than 5000miles)

..Anyone out there got a GSA and an RT ? and how do they compliment each other ?

I have an 1150 GSA which i've had since '03. Before that I had an 1100 rt which I always regretted selling.

So, I have just bought a lovely 1150 rt which rides superbly and is just as I remembered. If you're not bothered about taking your gs off road then I think the rt is like riding a gs except you have a lovely big fairing to keep the elements at bay.

I accept that other riders will have different viewpoints so this is just my opinion.

Personally Id look for a really nice 1100RT with all the bits like built in radio, get it remapped, fit headlamp relays, nice Givi topbox / that's a lot of bike for little money :thumby:

Here's my tuppence worth

Sold my 800gs earlier this year with the idea of getting a 1200 gs, but then bought a 06 RT at a great price on ebay (from dealer). Bike is running great, smooth, comfortable, great wind protection, top heated grips and no complaints other than a set of squared off tyres (now replaced with new road pilot 3). I did however feel a little cramped on the legs having been used to the GS, unusual considering I am a short ass! even took it our for a run with the sports bikes and did not disgrace myself, its much better than I had thought and grows on you.
Note - the electric screen is the muts nuts!

I then make the mistake of taking a ride on the mates GSA and loved it, was very planted, great fuel range, comfortable, great riding position and road view.

So now have a 09 GSA with ESA etc as well as RT.

I would sway towards the GSA as the better bike, more rounded and go anywhere but the RT is quiet capable on the road and stable.

Its def personal choice but the big GSA would be the Kings choice

Trust this assists.

no . you need one !:D

they're a brilliant bike and i preferred my 1100 over all all other bikes to jump on and go somewhere. (and I've had loads !!!)

you gotta get one ........... ive only ridden an 1100 so dont know if the 1150 is better, i suspect it is. the electric screen is brilliant as said before and i would love an 1150 or 1200 even but at the moment I've gone retro and ride a 100rt well i do when its going :comfort

get a mint one if you can and check under the fairing :thumby:

RT

Hi,
In answer to your original post , yes I run both an 1150 GS and a RT, the original bike was the GS and the RT was to supplement it and to use it for work (commute of 60 miles per day) and the work journeys that I would need to do. This it did with consummate ease, the larger screen helped so I could listen to my ipod whilst the miles slid by. It's one comfy bike but I have to say I enjoyed the 'attitude' of the GS more as a motorcycling experience.
Since retired so use the RT very little and contemplating selling it, and would keep the GS as my main bike... possibly regret this as the RT is a smashing looking bike and the 1150 probably the best of all the RT's in this respect.
Best advice I suppose is to go and ride one to see what you think (pm me if your'e in the Suffolk area and want to try one) Cheers :beerjug:John B
