Tell us your tyre mileages.

Bridgestone Battlewings 6,000 front and rear, 4 sets always same mileage!

Don't understand how some get soo much more out of tyres, must be the righthand :nenau

Now on Contis with 3mm left in rear and 4mm front at 5000 miles. Much better tyre though...

I got around 15,000 miles out of two sets of Tourance EXP rears. Not too shabby considering 12,500 miles was on a winter tour of Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and the Balkans. Mind you the front tyre delaminated on the road to Bari. I'd love to blame the tyre but it was my fault for pushing it beyond reason.
Ended up with a non EXP front but it works just fine.

Lost the back end in a blizzard in Austria on the way home - can't really blame the tyre for that either. User error I'm afraid (as in take more notice of the weather report)

Not sure why people take against the EXP. I was two up for most of the trip in conditions ranging from snow and sub-zero mountain roads to 30 degree desert and sand (I'm taking set of knobblies net time :augie). They coped with everything I threw at them and when I came the occasional cropper it was down to me not the rubber.

On another note....

A lot of riders here are talking about tyres squaring off. I've got a couple of questions
a) is there guide as to the safety of squared off tyres e.g. if the squared off tread is say 8cm across is it best to replace?
b) heard some talk about dual compund tyres. Does anyone do them for GSA and what are your thoughts on them.

In answer to the mileage question, I get around 8k klm out of a rear and 14k klm out of the front. Both Tourances.

I always run Tourance, have tried others but they're all shite.
Get 12k out of a set.
I've found them to be the best for all the motorway mileage I do. Get 6 months out of them on average

With that type of use would dual compound road tyres such as the Roadsmart not be a better choice :nenau

Can't comment on mileage, but got nearly 5k from them on a ZZR14.

This sounds bad until you consider I got through two of the OEM BT014's in under 3,000 (for both, not each! one was knackered at 1450 miles and the other one changed a bit early at 1200 because I was about to tour)

I am gonna try these for my tour in August, stick with EXP's until then.

Had a EXP on the bike with 4mm and it has lost 1mm in under 1k so can't see it lasting more than another 2k, bought a new front and it only came with 3.5mm of tread so can't see it lasting long either, be amazed if I can get 5k from either EXP - when rear goes will fit another to see out front and then change, if I go back to DP tyres it will be the new Dunlops.

Two sets of Battlewings on my 1200GSA, both rears did 5K. Fronts were replaced at the same time although they would have done another K or so. Have had two rear and one front Roadsmart - one rear lasted 5K the other 600 miles until it got a 6 inch nail through it. Currently trying out the Conti Trail Attacks so can't comment on mileage. I also have Roadsmarts on my K1100RS and rear mileage is about 5K to.

The Dunlops are my preferred option so far on purely road use. They are supurb in all road conditions and fast to turn in and predicatable. I was a little disappointed with the mileage which is why I'm trying the Conti's although longevity is not the highest priority for me which is wet grip. When I switched to the Trail Attacks it was immediately obvious how much slower they are to turn in but I have got used to that. I did save £60 on a set though compared to the Roadsmarts. There always seems to be a deal somewhere with the Conti's.

Got 18,000 miles out of my Bridgestone 235/45 18s to the point that they were bald and am now £375 lighter for a set of two.:blast

Tourances on my 1150's and 1200's have been around the same at 5,000 - 6,000 for the rear and 8,000 - 10,000 for a front.

Conti Trail Attack! 2009 GSA, 12,000 miles for front and rear - rear was well ready at the end!

Well ready, that's an understatement, it was as bald as a coots coot. :augie
Ya could see the canvas and we were still heading off to the lakes :D:D

Best regards Stretch :)

PS Generally, when does the silly season start again. :aidan Can't wait. :thumb2

When did it finish :)

Just ordered a new set of Tourances after 5500 out of the rear and about 8000 out of the front ..................all round mileage including daily commuting all year round, 2 up riding with the missus as well as play time chasing mates on sports bikes :thumb2

Rear is squared off badly down to 1mm across the middle and front worn down to about 1mm either side of the centre of the tyre so gives that lovely "nothing, nothing...drop in " feeling on roundabouts

Read these threads but cant find what make these tuarance?are , just got 1100gs with half worn metzelers on , mind you i have used metz in the past and was confident with them [ half the battle] so what should i go for.:flag

Front Conti Trail attack on my 1150GS lasted 19,375 miles. Hmm,I was quite stunned at that myself.

Just looked at my service history record, the rear Conti Trail attack lasted 13,230.

Rear now running on Michelin Pilot, maybe this will prove to be a false economy @ £99.75 last year.

front replacement was a Tourance.

1200GSA
Lots of motorway,2up with shed loads of luggage and a bit of off-road

Tourance
Rear 12000 miles
Front 14000

Heidenau

Rear 10000
Front 13000 and still plenty life leftif present wear rate continues I should get 18000 out of it

Mites E-10

Rear 1950 !!! Miles :(

1200GSA 5800 miles

rear tourance xp - ready for replacement.

front tourance xp - quite a bit left.

i'll probably change the rear for a trail attack soon, and the front when it needs it.
i thought the xp a good, if noisy tyre, but the TAs fitted to my last GSA were just as good, quieter, and lasted better.

1200GSA

Battlewings, Conti Trail Attacks and Roadsmarts: 5K on the rears for all 3, usually changed when there's 2mm left centre tread. Fronts changed every other rear. Could squeeze a little more out the rears I s'pose but I just love new boots on the GSA. Solo riding mostly, 15 stone rider and no motorways. I am a little undisciplined with the throttle hand punching the beast out of tight corners if I'm being honest :D

The rear Michelin Pilot is noisy though. When I was at Steptoe's, I told him there was a noise from the bacvk of the bike, he asked how long, I said it had been there quite a while. He replied that if there was anything untowards mechanically it would have let go by now. So the only thing different was the Michelin.

Bike's on 13k and I'm just about to go onto my fourth set. 3.5k out of the oe tourance exps and 5k each out of two pair of roadsmarts. And that's down to the wear indicator on each setnot just squared off.

It's in for a pair of pr3 trails next week so I'll see how they go. Have you ever felt the thickness of a tyre when it's down to the wear limit?

converted

got 12'000km/ 7'500 miles on tourances front and rear . only half worn . Rear slightly flat spotted have mainly commuted on a roads. A little fire trails . Onbly comment on tyres notice at i year old that roots were splitting on tread of front tyre. Mentioned to bmw on service time and told was common on these tyre and was not a problem. Been ok since no worse and now 2.5 years in . Was a little unnerved and was going to change on the principle of 2 wheel safety. On 4 wheels you have more of a chance if a tyre shreds. But ecenomics spoke out and why the fuc* should i spend good money replacing a tyre only 1/4 worn when bmw /metzeler won't come to party.
Have had bridges in past and do wear well.
Won't go back ,good wear on these and the grip is enbelievable in wet and on gravel. The gsa never scares me. Might be bike or tyre who knows but after all i am a sports bike convert.
