Tenere owners signing out...

cos they are orrible, had one , hated it, tryed another incase, still hated it, bought an xr, my oppinion anyway

The people that keep 'em seem to love 'em. Maybe a lot of owners were trading down from a multi and didnt quite realise/remember what a big single is like.:nenau

I'm about to do the same and I'm hoping I get on with a big single road bike because I have never had one before

I must say I like the look of them. Not using my GSA much as i have stopped commuting to Portsmouth ,anyone gone from a GSA12 to a Tenere and felt good about it:nenau

Should this be made a sticky???

Seriously though why do so many of them come up for sale so quickly and with such low mileage?? It's been asked before but never really answered.

Looking on other forums, there is no more or less movement than any other machine.
So, don't worry about cluttering up the top of any sections with a sticky, what would it be giving...... information on what?

Myself personally, I have eight bikes in my garage, and I need to make some room, hence the Tenere is up for sale on the FS section here.

Timpo.

I still have mine and love it. Its a great "all rounder" bike. It does lots of things well but excels at nothing in particular.

It depends which way you look at them

Better off road than a 1100/1150/1200GS
Better tourer than an X Challenge
Simpler engine than a 800GS
Cheaper new than all of the above

or

Not as good as an 1100/1150/1200GS at touring
Not as good as an X Challenge off road
Not as refined as a 800GS
Not as exciting as any of the above.

I was jesting of course....

But am seriously interested as to why so many come up for sale on here...

Out of my league anyway money wise, am only allowed one bike, as I now only do a few thousand clicks a year.... Whereas before I moved to Ireland I was doing 30k plus a year....

I took one out on a demo in Newcastle and the thing should come with a health warning - the vibes at 70ish were worse than a KTM 640 Adv .

Also didn't like the appalling finish, weak suspension or the weight, but everything else was good. I felt I was getting more for my money with a second hand 1200 so I went with that instead.

I like the style of the machine, in a sort of pseudo rally style fashion. I had ridden an F650GS when my 1200 was in for a service, and I thought that was very vibey.

When the Ten was first launched I couldn't get a local test ride, and I then found that money was tighter than I thought. After two years I was able to scrape enough cash together to buy an 09 already resprayed in white (the only colour I really fancied).

I know my 1200 was smoother and more powerful, the massive dependability of the GS brand was somewhat tarnished of late. I don't ride fantastic mileage, so I only have to contend with yearly services, but the Yam 'should' at least be cheaper on that front.

After two years without a 'proper' bike I'm perfectly happy with the Ten. At the moment it does what I want of it.

I didnt think the vibes were that bad at all when I test rode one .:nenau

I thought it was a great 'smaller' alternative to a GS and when you were sat on it riding along it didnt really feel that small . I liked it.:thumb2

The only thing I missed from my 1150 was that extra ooomph when overtaking. Trying to pass anything that was travelling faster than say 50mph on the B roads needed a little extra time/distance and planning. It was a short test ride and I was being cautious so I reckon that once i'd got more used to the handling and the performance available then this would have become less of a problem. Now 2 up and loaded, that could be a problem if you are in a hurry.

Hi Rushy, What bike did you buy and where do you ride as i have just bought my second xt660z and they are fun and cheap for what you get . I live on the wirral and ride with two other guys with xt660z,s and they both ride them hard and go in the mud & down the lanes ( the legal ones ) The other thing is you was right you have to plan overtaking but once on the move they are great and handle fantastic . We have had a bit of fun with the sports bike in north wales and its such fun when you pass them at the right moment . Ride safe and within the law :JB

i'm on the verge of buying one of these or an 800GS

They've 'only 'just come out here and are up at $15500 on the road - outrageously expensive

its this or the 800GS which is $20k on the road !!

i still haven't decided yet.

Yep I have http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=11568

Once you get use to the major difference of the power between the two bikes, I have had mine now for a couple months now and done about 800 miles, and love it I have done a fews mods to it and plan doing a trip to Switzerland etc next year. The vibes that some people seem to have, I don't suffer with at all.

It handles well parts are cheaper etc, do I have any regrets going from a 1200gs to the tenere NO not at all, it is a single the GS1200 is vibey if you compare it with 4 cylinder bike.

It will everything that the 1200 would do just a bit slower or quicker off road :augie

Alot of guys miss the point with big singles.

They are vibey, but they are easily thrashed around like a 17 year old on a 125.

The best part of low power, is the need to execute perfect timing. Whizz up behind a car before a bend and you have your work cut out. Leave a little space, accelerate as hard as possible into the bend (catching the car up) and hope there is an overtake the other side of the bend :D:D:D

My Dakar shakes itself to bits (especially on knobblies), but it is a hoot to ride. I get more fun out of it than I ever did with my 1150.

The true all round nature of the Dak and the TEN passes alot of people by. It ain't about looking like Charlie and Ewan, it's about a bike capable of off road and on road in similar proportions, and thrapping the knackers of em to get ya kicks.

Any GS is underpowered as it comes out of the factory (having ridden a 189bhp Busa, trust me, you are all riding scooters), but they are far from boring. All down to mind set. If you want power, but a sports bike. If ya want laughs, go buy a bog seat C90 and thrap around on it, guaranteed to make ya laugh.

I think many TEN owners bought the bike to be different and had a vision of a do all bike that is unrealistic. A good off road bike, for mere mortals, will never have much more than 50-60bhp. This can be tiresome on the road until you learn to plod.

Airhead owners understand this and few would swap their rides for the more powerful bikes.

Did the Alps last year on my Dak. I really enjoyed it, even with the vibes. Shocked a few on the twisties too :augie:augie:augie:augie

:clap

Well said, cant agree more having sold my zx10r and bought an rs250 then a Tenere can say they are so much more fun and make any blast a pleasure. Shock so many people with what the Tenere goes like, certainly not slow :augie

The way you ride it Ricky can't see any difference with the on road performance of either 12GS or Ten:thumb2

If you pootle you get vibes, if you work it you dont notice:augie:D:D

Peejay, if that is a compliment about my riding then I will take it has high praise indeed from you :). The 1200 GS has a more relaxed cruising feel to it on the motorway, so I just try to avoid motorway and stick to the A and B roads with the 10 :thumb2
