Having sold my blue new Tenere to an esteemed member of this establishment last week, I had 4K burning a hole in my pocket and I managed to syphon some of it off before the wife squirrelled the rest away to go into the house extension fund. After all, a chap can't be without a bike at all can he.

And a completely impulse purchase (although I've always, always wanted one) resulted in this arriving over the weekend

It rides absolutely beautifully and is so light and handles beautifully. It starts to lose interest above 65mph but then so do I what with speed cameras, twats in cars and admiring the scenery. It oozes character and I just adore the style. I've spent the morning looking up 1983 Paris Dakar videos on Youtube and I just love the whole "old skool"

It isn't quite as good condition as the photo suggests and it is not concours condition but it is not too bad. It is pretty much 100% standard as far as I can gather from a bit of internet research which always seems to be a good idea

If anyone has any experience or knowledge I'd be really grateful. The Germans seem mad for them and there is tons on the internet about them (in german) but not so much in English. David Lambeth seems to be the man and I might get him to delve around the engine over the winter. I would like to put Ohlins springs on front and rear but other than that it seems good to go.

Anybody fancy an old skool trip to North Africa ?

that looks like a really nice clean bike good find ....hope you enjoy it ...:beerjug:

Thanks

Thanks all, I'll drop the guy a PM , I've just posted the pic on Advrider XT600 thread as well, Its a 34L model, one of the very very first ones made in 1983 and I think it is going to take a little bit of love and care to keep going.

That said, its going to get used, at the Advrider rally, definately the Cambrian Rally and well, the Heroes Legend would be nice !

Nice bike

As others here have said nice bike, very capable, David Lambeth top chap, knows his stuff, and is very helpful, he's not cheap but he is good, wemoto are great for price and consumables, I have a TT600 4lw '98' that I love, great green laner, it has Ohlins suspension, USD front forks, an that great torquey hard to stall engine, not the fastest thing out there but it'll get you there! Also got a Tenere for sale (yes Mod's I will put it in the For Sale section) it's a rare only made in 85, Italian import, kick start only magnesium engine casings model, bought from fellow GS'r with the intention of fettling it, and registering it, but have no time and too many bikes so it's gotta go! Off to put it in the for sale section now! Good luck with the bike, cheers Dus :thumb2

23 yr old Italian import, electric and kick start. Nice bike:thumb

Just a quick note to say that I bought this mighty Tenere from RAP Superbikes in London
I phoned up Rick (the owner) the other day to tell him that the bike has developed a slight oil weep.
You might think "so what, its a 25 year old XT) but he drove up from London (120 miles) the next day, took it back down to London and sorted out fitting a new gasket and the bike was back at my house within the week.
And all for absolutely no fee
In a world of customer service, Rick (and the guys on the phone on the other end) have been absolutely brilliant.
And all this on a 25 year old bike. Beats what some offer when they are selling brand new 12k superbikes.
