I'm looking for a new tent and a tunnel style with a generous storage area looks appealing. The tent I have in mind is a Robens light dreamer shown HERE
For some reason the link doesn't go to the actual tent, it's in the 3 person section ??? Anyone used one or got any thoughts? It will just be for bike trips and car based camping so not too bothered about the weight. I've also looked at the jack wolfskin tundra and words end but can't see any advantage for the extra money?
TIA

but its not geodesic

Why buy anything else...?

With a non geo tent:

You don't need guys & tent pegs...
So you can pitch anywhere...
Then you move the tent to the smooth n level bits
You can always use pegs if its windy
Don't HAVE to peg - which can be very difficult on hard and soft ground (earth/sand).
Much quicker to pitch than non geo.
Much quicker to de-pitch

Much better would be the Robens Fortress (also available at Cotswold Camping):

PS - I have an expensive non geo tent and it's crap just cos its non geo! Would not make that mistake again.

PPS - I have a Robens tarp and it's very good indeed.

I got the Jack Wolfskin Tundra 2RT. Easy to put up and lots of room for your gear. I went to Cotswold Camping, and spent a couple of hours with the sales girl putting up various tents before making my choice. Get to your local store and try them.

Thanks for the replies guys:thumb2
I appreciate the benefits of a geodesic design but unfortunately the porch area doesn't look suitable for what the tent will be used for:(
I'll try and get over to cotswold and have a go with a few different tents:thumb2

I have had my Robens for 4 years now and I think its a quality bit of kit. Can't remember the model though, something castle I think ............Hikers caste maybe:confused: . Toured for 3 months with it when I originally bought it and its done 2 camping trips a year since. Still like new .

Its a 2/3 man dome but still packs small enough to take on the bike even when two up and fully loaded . When you look in plan view 50% is sleeping space with a ground sheet etc and 50% is sort of covered storage space. I like it because all your gear is inside the tent but not inside the sleeping area with you , if you see what I mean. Would've been nicer with a porch though , bought a Decathalon Tarp a few months ago to resolve that issue .

Cool, the guy I spoke to at cotswold said he thought they were really good value too. I'm off to harrogate now to check them out:thumb2

Have a look at the Coleman Phad X3, I've got the earlier Quartz version (same tent really).

Roomy, reasonable size vestibule bit for puttin yer stuff/sheltered area for cookin if the weathers poo! easy put up n take down. Its good n stable too if it gets a bit blowey.

Used mine last 2years at the Dragon Rally (Snowdon in Feburary) no probs. Although this year was more 'summer outting' than 'hardcore' winter camping!
