the kyhams look good,,,exept they all seem to be quite large,

biker tent looks good, anyone tried these?

Lots, but if you want my opinion they are no quicker to put up, have vunerable joints to break, packed up their too long and aren't that great in high wind.

On the Scoots'08 tour ...

... to the Gambia I used a QUECHUA '1 Adult/1 Child' tent very kindly donated by Noddy from this site :bow. With certain reservations it was simply superb; withstood gale-force winds that flattened other tents, waterproof, was quick and easy to erect and take down and is available for £25 from here.

The reservations were:

You'd have to be VERY closely related to get two people in it.

The pack size leaves you with a 53cm disc about 3-5cm thick; no problem in a car (or support truck) but difficult to mount on a bike, although the pack has edge loops to enable it to be bent around and strapped to a rucksack or Ortlieb.

The internal space was further limited by the sloping inner tent which means getting gently slapped on the head all night if you're 6 foot plus. Soon adapted but a definite drawback.

I've heard mention of Phad tents - not sure how good they are.
Amazon sell them

Hilleberg Akto, will withstand any weather, pack to very small size and weight, vestible to store your gear (though not huge) erects in under 2 mins using one pole with groundsheet, tent and flysheet all in one go. Expensive but worth it. Just google akto.

Digger

I have the Phad X2.

Not cheap but it's was the most waterproof tent I could find in my budget I think it was just over a £100. Here is a pic of it at night...easy to find after a few :beer:http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1282066&postcount=70
Plenty of room for one would be okay for two. Folds up fairly small the tent sleeping bag and bed roll all goes into a 20ltr dry bag tied on the bike.

I also have a Coleman Quartz (now phad) for when its just me and kit. Got it on recommendation from Forry and its great. However Forry wishes he got the 3 now not the 2 as there is a tiny bit more room and the pack size isn't much different.

That's true I'd buy the 3 man if I were to purchase one again 2's big enough for me but the pack size isn't really any different for the 3 :thumb2

new tent this week

On Trippy's advice, I bought a Mountain Equipment 2/3 Backcountry in Taunton Leisure's sale from 200 to 100. It seems like a great tent but hasn't been used yet other than just thrown up to see what it was like. It's well built, compact for bike mounting and spacious enough for 2 and kit (I'm 6"1'). I think you'd be hard pushed to find a better deal at the moment and MEquip make seriously good gear without getting into HubbaBubba or TerraNova price territory.

Tents

Why not talk to Les at Traveldri. One thing to bear in mind is whether you want to stand up in the tent or not. I went to Garmisch last year and found it a pain to be always on your hands and knees in the tent, especially when it rains every day as it did lasy year.
