Tesco Inshes Inverness Fuel

On suitable forecourts I do get off and pop the bike on the centre stand but so many are contaminated with spilt fuel or even worse spilt fuel and sand that I feel more secure just sitting on the bike and filling up the tank that way. Its not getting it on the centre stand on a slippery surface that is the problem, its getting it off. I don't like sitting on the bike and nudging it off the centre stand and rolling a heavy loaded bike off the centre stand while you are alongside supporting it is no fun if your boots are slipping and sliding.

I also have a flip front helmet that I don't remove unless I am stopping for a longer period than a quick refuel. I have never been asked to remove it but I have taken the precaution at filling stations with notices asking you to remove your helmet of topping up to a round figure in cash and going into the kiosk with the exact amount in my hand. If asked to remove my helmet I would refuse and leave the cash on the counter but so far I have never been challenged. I can understand a bit of apprehension amongst staff having a customer in a full face helmet approach the counter given that so much security is now reliant on CCTV but a flip front helmet hides no more recognition features than a hoodie and a lot less than a burqa.

Totally agree, my biggest concern is the amount of spilled fuel on most forecourts. For me again i feel safer sitting on the bike and avoiding having the entire sole of the boot covered in fuel, there last week my foot was slipping on the peg after getting back on, this doesnt seem to be as bad if i sit on the bike and avoid having to walk around in this mess on the ground.

Should go back to separate pumps for petrol and diesel then we wouldn't have to paddle around in the muck - would stop mis-fuelling incidents as well.

Can't see why it's a problem, to get off the bike and put it on the centrestand and start to fill up

Fuelling while sitting astride the bike should be banned on safety grounds, for the very reason in the video

If you fill up with supermarket crap, then you deserve all the shit you get.

I know it's not always possible to avoid them, but their fuel is shite.

This angry post has been brought to you by Steroids and lack of sleep...

Suppose you are but then whats really the difference when riding along, what about folk sitting in the car when your fuelling it where do we stop??

I guess the difference is that if you are sitting on the bike and it all goes in shite, you run off dumping the bike which falls over emptying whatevers in the tank all over the floor/fire.....

OK, now I've seen and heard an alternative view, I have to say I can see the risks and will no longer sit on the bike whilst filling.

Helmets off is a different matter.......

Totally agree Miff their fuel is shite, had a car where high pressure pump failed and main cause was cheap fuel. Me thinks I will be changing my ways, get off bike when fuelling and big name petrol stages.

Cheers as normal for all the thoughts.

I cannot understand how sitting on your bike to refuel does not get spilled diesel on the soles of your boots, are you sitting on your bike and only have your tip toes on the floor whilst you are refuelling ?
if so this must be more dangerous ? assuming it isn't already.

They want a full picture of your face in case you ride off without paying. The number plate is not sufficient because it is the person who committed the offence that they need to be able to show a clear picture of in court.

Obviously they don't want to state this since they are accusing their customers of being potential thieves so they mention H&S instead.

If you want to avoid getting angry just get off the bike and take your helmet off every time. It's kind of therapeutic.

I thought he was talking about the pay at pump set-up...doesn't matter what you wear?

Pay at the pump for me, with regards to feet on the ground i can get both feet flat on the ground (handy being tall), if your off the bike you are wandering around a lot more. Its not really an issue, i totally see where everyone is coming from regards safety and being honest its good to get off and stretch the legs..

I have never sat on my bike whilst refuelling

Always used the side stand and never had a problem. I don't think the extra amount of fuel you can put in the bike makes that much difference.
afterall there are petrol stations everywhere ;) I do however get pissed off when asked to remove my helmet but this has only happened a couple of times so I go elsewhere . :nenau

start wearing a burkha or full face balaclava under your helmet - then take the helmet off.....see how that goes ?

Few years ago fuelled bike up at Tesco Inches Inverness. Standing in q in the shop with a £20 note in hand to pay cashier. Flip front lid on and open. Plooky youf says to me you will need to take your helmet off, i says why, he says you may be going to rob us ! I says fuckwit if you can take my helmet off your welcome to try if not shut the fuck up and take the money im giving you to pay for the petrol i already have in my bike, if you dont want it i will leave. There were around a dozen people in the q behind me and total silence !! Needless to say ive never been back and never will go back. Tescos are SHITE !! end of.

Similar experience to Waitrose in Abergavenny only I was waving a credit card in an obviously threatening manner. I wonder how many cashiers have been robbed after being threatened by a Mastercard? Anyway, I took the same approach, offered to pay for the petrol already in my bike. I told the shouty woman that if she did not accept payment then I would assume the petrol was a gift. She backed down and took the card payment after looking towards her colleague for support only to get a STFU look.

They were probably embarrassed by the 'hard man' ranting at the kid behind the counter :tosser

i have never seen anyone refueling whilst sitting on the bike, must lead a sheltered life. i pop it in the sidestand and fill it right up. get pissed of if asked to remove my helmet:rolleyes: as my ear plugs usually come out so make sure by the time i get all my gear on again i take at least 10mins and cause a nice queue.:D

How about ditching the petty, squeaking rage at 'The Man' and getting on with your lives?

Toughen up, you bunch of fannies.
