What do you wear under your textile pants? Long Johns, joggers, Jeans, commando, or what?

Long John’s in winter
Just normal underwear in summer
You don’t want anything thick like joggers or jeans under them I guess, I wouldn’t

Depends how cold it is. Normally spring through to Autumn only my undies, but if it's cold I also wear thermals. I have outlast liners too but never really found them useful, they just seem to make the trousers fit more tightly ooo arr madam

Always long johns. It depends on the season as to what weight. For hot weather, I have some very lightweight Patagonia ones that are perforated and work well to wick sweat away from my skin. I've also got umpteen other pairs for different occasions, including fairly heavy weight Merino ones.

I only use a Klim Marrakesh suit full time on the bike, with Halvarsson mesh under layers that I bought several years ago.
In summer it’s generally a short sleeved T shirt type top, and long sleeved top/long johns for use in winter.
They’re high wicking and very comfortable.

A thin Merino/Poly blend stops them sticking to you and even in warm weather. For cold weather the best for me are Malden Powerstretch pants which you can grt from Montane and most of the better outdoor companies. Expensive but soooo good. ironically though i’m not a fan of using powerstretch tops as for me they feel too tight and i prefer a bit of space, so i wear a microfkeece top and the a mountain equipment down gilet. (synthetic one if i think there will be prolonged rain)

Just pants and a normal t shirt during the warmer months then I’ve got a Rukka long john pants and top combo for when it gets colder, they’re really comfortable.

Thin merino ( icebreaker I think) leggings
They wick the sweat away and stop things getting sticky

Pro Skins in the summer, merino during the winter. Anything that would help with skin sheer.

A wicking layer. Mountain Warehouse stock cheap polyester ones or dearer merino wool ones. Currently in Spain, using merino leggings and Isocool t shirts

Under my Marrakesh (depending on the temps) it's either Icebreaker leggings & top, potentially with a t-shirt on too & the Klim Zephyr if a bit chilly. For my Carlsbad usually Jeans in the colder months & icebreaker leggings. Icebreaker top, t-shirt & midweight fleece layer. Or if cold enough my warm & safe heated jacket.

My first job is to always take the manufacturer‘s additional thermal linings out. These never go back.

For the bottom half:

My excellent Merino undercrackers, when it’s warm to hot. As I also have a mesh textile suit, it also helps.

If it’s cold, my excellent Merino undercrackers PLUS my equally excellent Merino long johns.

If it’s feckin’ freezing, I might well add my excellent heated leggings linings.

For the top half:

Near enough the same.

For undercrakers, insert my excellent Merino T-shirt.

If it’s cooler, then my excellent Merino long sleeved top.

Freezing…. Then my excellent heated top.

I can also, depending on my mood or appreciation of the likely weather. add or take away other layers.

PS I am very fussy about my Merino tops. They are never rounded or ‘crew neck’. Always with a one quarter zip.

If you buy the merino products from Mountain Wearhouse, be aware that there are different levels of merino wool in their products, some of them as low as 40%

yes, I read the labels

the ones I bought are 100%. I actually think 15% polyester is a benefit as it wears better. I find 100% merino ones tend to get holes in where it rubs against velcro e.g. the pockets for knee and hip armour

Which brand of excellent merino undercrackers etc does one recommend to the fellow rider?

I got several isocool t shirts as suggested by wessie. They are very good, and wash n dry quickly.
