TFT Conectivity

As I started this..............

I actually don't want a phone call, I don't listen to music on the bike nor do I need assistance in interpreting the lovely pictures of roads that garmin provides me with.

My point is though - it should work. Whether you choose to use it is an entirely different matter and missing the point.

That said the TFT is good and I love it.

......and while we are whinging...why do you need spoken directions for the GPS?

:D

Me!

So I don’t have to look.

On another note I’m not sure the routing using the app connected to the TFT is very good.
I was working on the far side of the city earlier this week and knew the traffic would be an absolute shitshow. So I checked google maps and yep it was a mess and the usual direct fastest route was pretty much at a standstill.

I compared google maps, Apple maps and my NAV V and they all pretty much picked the same alternative route based on traffic. The connected app first tried to send me into the traffic then decided on a really crap route that did not agree with the other three mapping tools or me.

And before anyone says I had not messed around putting any strange options on the app or TFT. For me NAV on the TFT will only be for a quick find locally or as a fall back until its gets better. I know it’s not currently a full NAV replacement but I expect the routing to be as good when your not asking for any advanced routes.

Amen!

But apologist gonna apology I guess...

I would get that if the System 7 works but it is the same as above.

Yeah well... it's even worse that it doesn't work then...

The comm system in the new System 7 is still basically the exact same electronics as last gen(only slight variation in button layout to accommodate the new lid) but it doesn't work for everything(as far as my experimentation and patience goes, no way to have Nav6 spoken instructions while TFT is connected), and dealership are still clueless. Some know more than other but it's based mainly on personal experimentation / customer feedback as the motherbase didn't give them any clear instructions (at least I hope they didn't otherwise my dealership just graduated from incompetent to patently dishonest).

Agree with above. I have the TFT, and love it, i dont have it connected to anything as i dont want to take phone calls on the bike.
A question though if i may, if the TFT is connected to my phone, does the nav get live traffic updates? I sat in heavy traffic this week with nothing showing on the nav.
If your nav is connected to phone with data plan and Garmin app; Yes it does get live traffic.
Now the problem is this: phone should only be connected to TFT and nothing else.
So I dunno if the nav will receive the traffic info from the phone.

This topic has been discussed to death on another forum.

1. Pair phone to TFT.
2. Pair helmet to TFT.
3. Pair helmet 2nd BT Channel to nav gps.
4. Pair 2nd helmet to TFT (to receive music)
5. Pair pillion to rider via the pillion BT pairing

This means both helmets will hear music, gps voice and each other.

Any Sena above model 10 will work with TFT.

Hope this helps.

PS: reset all BT devices will clear the BT internal addresses which may be used up. This could mean factory reset your phone if it has had many BT devices paired before. This is not fault of BMW or TFT but inherently a BT connection limitation for any device.

May have been discussed to death but that don’t work. Only one A2DP channel on bmw communicator.

You are an apologist(but I'm starting to think you are just a pretty lousy troll) because when people come asking for help regarding specific issues with functionalities that BMW promises but does not offer with the TFT Kombi, you you feel compelled to keep spewing unhelpful and offtopic crap like :

"Everything is fine with MY bike; Nobody needs bluetooth nor spoken GPS direction... "

By the way, this topic is titled "TFT connectivity", maybe, I don't know, don't contribute when you have nothing useful to share or are not even remotely interrested or impacted by the subject at hand. Maybe you thought your input was required for every topic(it's not!).

Funny how tech takes over I taught a friend basic navigation on his yacht he now has his boat cockpit full of instruments. Well at the weekend he had some friends who were amazed that you can sail closer to the wind by just looking at your sails and the wind on your cheek than assuming what some digital display tells you is right. It’s a bit like enjoying the ride / scenery rather than being transfixed on display, music, Bluetooth and the rest of techno sh**e. Ps I don’t find the clock display crap as I don’t tend to be transfixed by them/ it.
Well just my aged mindset take on it.

I wonder how all those luddites got drawn to BMW bikes in the first place... The brand basically built his image and success on innovation and adoption of new technologies and electronic riding aides... Yes, some people don't like listening to music while riding, prefer bona fide needles and gauges to digital displays, would never answer a phone call and hate getting spoken directions while navigating strange cities... well perfect, don't, you do you!

Yes, and even if you get everything paired I suspect it won't necessarily work as you want. Within Bluetooth there are different channels for media audio and phone audio, and whether a device pretends to be phone or a media player will dictate whether or not it will override another audio source when received by a headset, with phone usually taking priority. If you have two devices both either phones or pretending to be phones, then even if successfully paired, which one takes priority and gets through to your ears is probably a lottery.

Sadly aligned with my own experience (System 7 + Nav 6 + iPhone X). Either/Or, can't have TFT and Nav paired at the same time.

It works ....for many people. Including the folks in SENA....who tested all their devices. Did YOU try? Oh...you use BMW helmet? Maybe that does not work well...it should. Go get your money back.

English clearly isn't your first language, so let me educate you.

An apologist is one who glosses over a product's shortcomings due to their blind faith in the company, to the exclusion of plain evidence to the contrary.

I merely offer my opinion that, in this day and age of heavy traffic and manic drivers, we, as motorcyclists, should not become distracted by largely useless tech.

We should not fall into the same trap as motorists who feel compelled to answer every phone call and respond to every text. We must be the master of technology, not it of us....

Having said that, the TFT is a great improvement over the analogue clocks.

Carry on.

Precisely, and that is exactly what you do each time you imply the issue lies with the user and not with BMW when they rightfully demand from BMW to provide functionality that they made us pay for, regardless of your opinion about technology. Don't make me look for quotes of you stating THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH TFT, or ISSUES WITH TFT HAVE BEEN SOLVED BY THE PATCH.... English may not be my first language but we both know the definition of disingenuous...

People are not asking if it's a good idea to wirelessly listen to music while riding, they are asking HOW you make it work because it's PART of the features of the TFT. That you chose not to use that set of features for whatever personal reasons you may have is irrelevant.

Some people don't like linked brakes or ABS, but I bet that they would still be pissed if the bike they bought came without those features even tho they were advertised and sold as a premium option.
