Morning all,

Filled the bike up this morning, restarted and TFT display went completely blank.
Indicators and high beam warning lamps are working but the main screen is dead.
Tried switching off and on again but no joy.
Anybody else had a similar problem? I'm guessing this is going to be a trip to the dealers.

Andy

I'm guessing the dealer is the obvious choice unless you like riding around staring at a black screen.

Cue the tedium of the 1150 luddites.

+1 on above, you could disconnect the battery for a moment then try to start up the bike, however that is only adding a plaster, seems software needs doing again.

Ok if you insist .:D

It does seem a bit silly though that so called improvements in technology just end up being unreliable gimmicks.

Does anyone dare keep these technological pieces of wizardry once out of warranty ?

This was a pretty common software issue with TFT Kombi that were on the original firmware. I'm pretty positive it has nothing to do with bluetooth per se, but the software revision prone to this issue (no image on TFT but everything working normally otherwise) is also riddled with bluetooth issues.

The fix : FOC upgrade of the software, but it's a time consuming operation so you need to book an appointment at the dealership, no walk in as it takes north of 2 hours to complete, and that is if everything works fine the first time, which it doesn't always does.

Just started the bike again and the TFT came to life as normal.
Not sure what to do now.

That's the usual erratic behavior of that issue, and if you do nothing it will randomly happen again. You really need to have it fixed (it's free).

Other than stopping this random black screen plague, the update also brings some subtle and not so subtle improvements, namely to bluetooth but to a whole lot of other aspects, plus it gives you the ability to setup the ride mode pro on the TFT (if you got the optional dongle).

Bring bike to BMW (book an appointment), ensure they know that the TFT software (+bike) takes at least 3hours or more. Tell them the TFT blacked out. They should give you a replacement bike because you are claiming this update "service" under warranty.

This happened on one of the bikes that we took round Spain, unfortunately it happened at Chievley Services, fine before, blank screen after a coffee stop.
Rider is fairly new so was not happy to set of on the trip without it being looked at so we vectored to Bahnstormers who immediately reset it and it was fine after that.

Bike was sent into AJ for the screen sw update on our return

Big 'Up' for Bahnstormers for helping us out (coffee was decent too)
