TFT Retrofit for 2016/2017 models in 2019

Oh... and why pay £3,500 tax again on buying a new bike... -

Depreciation is nothing to do with VAT, and everything to do with supply and demand. Though of course if you wanted to sell a 15K bike back to the dealer the very next day, they'd smack your bum for 2K right away, just for being a silly boy.

When the factory missed off some options on my new basic bike last year they were unsure if the software could be installed on the bike to make good one of the issues (it was eventually via a special factory update ) but prior to this BMW UK instructed the dealer to offer me a new TE off the showroom floor with TFT and keyless etc for no extra cost , they were a bit perturbed when I instructed them to FRO and I wanted my bike sorted or a new Basic with the bits on that I had ordered .

Too much electonic gimickry to go wrong once out of warranty and when you have to stump up for parts or workshop diagnostic/factory update times

So your bike is a keeper, mine also, enough wizardry already on these bikes.

:hammer Ker-Dunk..... :hammer Ker-Dunk..... this thread is not dead yet

SO...... any more news on this.

As Dealers seem to want up to £8000 on an upgrade from 18 month old bikes, to the new R1250 (which I think is extortion) I'm sniffing around the possibility to upgrade my current 2017 R1200GSA with Euro4 OBD2 connectors to the new TFT Screen.

My dealer so far has sent me an email with the below information, but nothing else yet

TFT Screen - £1025
Left switch is £313 (black buttons)
Right switch £136 (black buttons)

Can anyone add anything useful to this? :nenau

If those are the only hardware differences then the rest might just be ECU encoding. You would be able to add the options using E-Sys

What about labor charges? I don’t know if that’s useful or not. It’s the tick end of £1500+labor. That’s a fair contribution to a new bike. JJH

Only if you buy all the bits new.... how long will it be before the parts start appearing on eBay for £200

so, you’re unhappy to take your own bike abroad in case it gets nicked but are happy to buy stolen parts from other people’s bikes? paradoxical to say the least.
Happy new year anyway.

Nah, honestly can't be bothered with the drunken twat. :D

What I've not been given a price on yet is the wiring loom connectors, that has been suggested as being needed.

I'll chase that up again when the dealers are back to work this week. :)

Once I know how much it'll all cost, and what needs to be done, we can see about shopping around to get the best deal on the parts that are needed.

I don’t see the point. You’d be better off calling a few dealers and doing a deal on a new bike. Unless you’re keeping this one forever (which we both know you won’t ;)), you’ll just be throwing another load of money down the pan.

But I don't see the point either, until I've gathered all the information. Until I know what I'm dealing with, I can't make an informed decision.

Once I know what parts I need, the costs, and how much I can get for selling the old parts, so I have a 'cost to change' value.... then I won't know if it's worth it.

I may recover £300 to £500 back from selling the old unwanted switchgear, dashboard parts..... which will bring the costs down.

I paid £15,800 for my new GSA Triple Black (On The Road) in March 2017. It's a lot of bike and has everything I want (including Hill Start Assist), and at 13,000 miles is just run in. The equivalent new R1250 bike cost is now £18,100. If I Px mine today, I'd probably get £11,000 (if I'm lucky). So the cost to change is going to be £7k to £8k.

I've put £6,000 aside this month to pay off my Africa Twin, so that's sorted, and I get a whole additional bike for that.

... and I've done so much work on my R1200 I'm not ready to give it up just yet.... I'm loath to hand BMW another £7k or £8k for an updated bike, not just yet (and I want a Triple Black version anyways)

So I'm exploring my options on this TFT Screen refresh, and overall, I probably won't pay much more than someone paid for the 2018 R1200GSA Triple Black with TFT Screen (as the prices went up again soon after I bought mine) :D

There are deals to be had on the last of the 1200’s; there’s a few floating around the dealer network, so the cost to change to one wouldn’t be too bad. ;)

Alternatively, some dealers are now discounting the 1250. :augie

Now now, no need for name calling. I wasn’t drunk, merely musing over the apparent contradiction over your passionately repeated views on bike security (can’t take it abroad, someone might nick it:eek:) and your willingness to casually buy for £200, seemingly untroubled by origin, kit that you have costed at £1400.
If you insist upon posting at great length and detail your every thought, fascinating thought they are, I suppose like Janus you may on occasion find yourself facing both directions simultaneously.;)

I wondered if you'd come back.

I was making a point actually, how assumptions can be offensive and uncalled for.

Fake News. So first I've never said I wouldn't take a bike abroad in fear of someone stealing it. Those are your words out of context and fake news. What I actually said was I'd rather take a lower value bike abroad so the financial risk was less, as I have a few bikes to choose from. What's wrong with that, it's common sense!?

Secondly, how dare you assume I would knowingly and willingly buy stolen goods from anyone? Cheeky fecker. I work hard for my money like everyone else on here and buy and sell stuff that is legal and legit.

I've bought some very good kit, from very good people on eBay... hard working bikers like you and me, but for one thing and another have had to sell their stuff cheaply for a quick sale. It's a very good and reliable source of kit if you are patient and look around.

My GS Alloy wheels I bought recently off eBay, lots of emails and some phone conversations beforehand to establish it's all genuine, Giles visited me and dropped the wheels off, exchanged stories and photos of his round the world trip bike preparations (spoked wheels) and was all totally above board and as expected, every step of the way...

I do not support thieving criminals and do my best to avoid and protect my stuff from them.

If you read my post carefully you will see that nothing I wrote was definitive or absolute. Rather, my comments reflect how some of the things you write appear to me. I never alluded to ‘a bike’ but to this bike being financially unsuitable for foreign travel. I’m heartened to read that you extend your dread of bike theft to also include not supporting the resultant market in dodgy parts. Although £200 for an eBay tft?
As for fake news? A poor use of a poor trumpism. You’re better than that.
Vale

Well must have been fake news as no 2nd gen TFT in sight, otherwise it would have been on the new 1250, unless that is the next step to make peeps bite................;)

Or a 2020 new build bike with current 1250 engine :D
