TFT theft and anti theft bracket stolen, Mark to the blower

Why not get in touch with him and ask him? But could also be that you don’t have any bollocks to do it. Just a massive useless pie hole…
Shut up ya fanny

Here we go again....

Can we please calm down the personal stuff?
I see your point and my apologies to the forum, I shall carry out ceremonial seppuku .
I see the usual get triggered and allude to my integrity. That is personal.
I am sure the same would not happen in a face to face encounter.
I was hoping someone would make a helpful contribution, maybe someone with “engineering” skills. My mistake to post here. Move this to the R1250RS section please.

I'm no expert but I would assume that if security can be programmed in, then anyone with a devious mindset and the right kit could programme it out again and thus leave it 'clean' to sell.

This must be happening Id assume otherwise they would be un sellable ??

It looks a poor design, having said that, with a vehicle where there is little or no enclosed space, pretty much every shiny thing is on show, and thus fair game to a thieving bastard.

It's a sad fact of life that there are low lifes out there who will readily steal someone else's private property. Perhaps BMW need informing via their dealer network that they need to address the ease with which these things are being stolen? The only market for them seems to be ebay and BMW owners which is the bitter irony but they'll get away with it as the police have little to go on in these cases.

Sorry to hear you've been a target Zoltan. Hard to know what to suggest but hopefully it's the first and last time it happens to you. Insurance claim?

Nope - You need to understand how canbus works - its a very clever system

In a nutshell, all collected data from all sensors, is sent to all modules on the canbus - if the module the data is sent to, needs it, it uses it... if not it passes it on

So the kombi needs data from the ZFE , once it has that data is does some checks if the data is corrects it's used. If incorrect it flags an error and looks for new data

Now the mileage of the bike is stored in the Kombi & the ZFE - (and may be in other modules ;) ) so when the kombi checks its internal value , it compares to the ZFE - if they match ,all is good

no match and the Kombi flags an error and starts to flash ..... and only dealer coding can correct that one

So one would assume that the shit bags either have access to a dealer or have a machine.

Not good either way.

I have a reasonable understanding of CANBUS and I'm sure your explanation is more or less on the money.

What it does not explain is why BMW did not program the screen, having detected such a mismatch, to light up with "THIS SCREEN IS STOLEN AND FITTED TO THE WRONG BIKE _ PLEASE IMMEDIATELY ARREST THE SCROTUM RIDING IT" and use the SOS to call the cops.

ok, OTT, but the principle of bricking the screen (with or without an option for recovery) would cut the chances of one being stolen from "quite probable" to "not in our lifetime", which might be helpful?

How would that work with a salvage Bike and selling it for parts? Would it contravene the 'right to repair' for consumers if they completely blocked it from being used on anything bar the original Bike?
Whilst you need the dealer to re-code it to your Bike (probably an hours labour), to be able to re-use parts from a dead motorcycle is a better thing - under more normal circumstances, not theft.

I’d generally agree that reuse of parts is a good thing, but it was necessary to “brick” phones, and code car radios to bring a halt or at least slow down those illegal trades in stolen goods. It would be entirely possible to implement a number-plate type of registration so you had to show your v5 to get the thing re-coded at an authorised dealer. BMW could have done this, but obviously didnt think it necessary, maybe a naive lack of understanding of scrotes, of just don’t care - good sales of replacement parts - if only you can supply.

how long will Zoltan’s mate be without a bike? Is it his/her only wheels? Some scumbag surely deserves a quiet talking to, but BMW should not have let it become a problem.

maybe its an inside job...no need for the V5. Copied dealer software, sold on or re purposed with a by pass..surely putting a "track my console" option to an app might be easier ala i phone?

So is there a solution ?? ive just ordered a new 1250RS and could do with this not happening !!

Eastern Europe is so corrupt, the dealer would probably unlock it for a certain price
