OK, I am going to buy into this one. I live in the inner city in Sydney with thousands of squashed in victorian terraces. Sound carries incredibly in these areas due to echo. There is kind of an unwritten rule that you don't start up noisy cars or bikes and keep them running.

I have done it twice with my bikes in 5 years and each time the neighbours come out to visualise their disdain. If you are in the burbs it should be ok but if you are in densely populated area and running a bike with aftermarket exhaust for 5-10 minutes then it is reasonable to expect some reaction from the neighbours.

I do not condone what has happened here and your neighbour is 1000% in the wrong but could this have been avoided with common courtesy or is this not relevant in this circumstance?

It is possible that a community resolution will get you the money you need. It depends on your preferred outcome. A conviction and fine etc might not retrieve what this incident has cost you, whereas if he pays up, apologises to you and gets a lesser penalty it could be better all round. Especially as you will have to live three doors from the knob head.

Like someone said up thread make sure the quotes get to the officer dealing and that they get through to the CPS for court so everyone knows the amounts involved.

Someone pushed my 2011 GTR1400 over a few years ago, he was caught on CCTV, had fingerprint evidence and he pleaded guilty in court but because he was a "man of straw" he was ordered to pay only £300 in damages even though there was £1200 worth of damaged fairing. He paid £20 a month and was ordered to do some community service.

I was out of pocket as I was TPFT only. My point is don't expect the Criminal Justice system to actually be on your side, they don't give a fuck! Get your own justice in whatever way that may be.
