I have read various comments posted here about Warranty Direct and in general they question the merit of buying a policy. However I bought one when my BM warranty expired on my 1200GS Adventure.
Last week I had the dreaded call from Pidcocks ...... your bike is ready after it's 18,000 mile service ...... unfortunately your rear ESA Shock is leaking oil and will need replacing, pity it was not under warranty ....... cost £1,200 + fitting:eek:
I tell them I have a Warranty Direct policy, so don't do anything at the moment.
I make one call to Warranty Direct, tell them of the issue, they ask me to get Pidcocks to call them. This they do and all within an 1 hour they sign off the repair and Pidcocks can proceed :clap.
Because the bike was not in one of their registered repair shops [ seemed no point in lifting it out and transporting to another dealer], I had to pay the initial bill and they have refunded me. The whole process has been slick and very professional through their UK customer service team ....... excellent from start to finish ....... no complaints here:beerjug:

That's lucky you had £1200 available to pay the dealer's bill :thumb2

mmmmm

Take the risk on missing 4 years premiums and have the dosh to pay for the repairs.....................(if you`d saved it of course!)

just done a quick online quote and it quoted me £377 for a year, on my 2007 bike:eek::eek:

Yep - but you don't pay that figure!!!! As I posted elsewhere....initial quote of £240 something was reduced to £185 when I rang them (without me asking for a discount) and guaranteed at the same price for next year's renewal if I decide to renew in 12 months. That's on a 59 plate F800GS.

Warranty Direct

My payment was £199 for an 09 R1200Gs Adventure.
The bigger question is why the ESA shock fails after only 18,000 miles, that has severely p.......d me.
It seems you pays your money and takes your chances!!

Good to hear that you had a satisfactory experience.
I had a slightly less desirable outcome when my BM estate needed some work, they left me with the opinion that almost anything could be attributable to wear and tear and hence was outside of my particular policy. In fact the chap failed to name any item that would be covered!
For this reason I have never taken out warrenty on the 1200 but I'm glad that you are glad you did!

Slightly off topic but in the same vein
Five years ago we bought a new Yaris for the bambinos to thrash to death as it turned out
I bought, after the initial 3 year warranty expired, a Toyota extended warranty.
It had road side breakdown and delivery for europe as well
Amazingly it has an MOT failure guarantee!
The car failed its MOT on a split CV boot (new regs have just come in sir...) That will be £220 for the part and hour and half labour plus VAT.
Call Toyota warranty - yes sir that is covered - yes you can get it done at you local lexus dealer - all is wonderful. Local lexus dealer unbeknown to me had upped and buggered off.
So off to Toyota dealer - courtesy car sir? - Yes we can do it tomorrow.
Collect car - all valeted and serviced ( it was due one) - oh we replaced the water pump as well under warranty. We tried to get the other CV boot done as well as it will need doing next year but no dice.
Now paying the warranty for year 5 as less than the cost of a CV boot replacement.
First time ever a warranty has worked out for me. Quite pleased. :thumb

Just had one replaced at 17,000 on a bmw warranty.

I think anything over 15k is OK on a shock, most OE shocks are getting a bit tired by 10k in my experience, and most are pretty crap by 20k even if they aren't leaking the damping is normally shot.

Only real shame is the cost of OE shocks, typically more than that of much higher quality stuff such as Ohlins / Wilburs which have the distinct advantage of being fully serviceable.

I guess the downside of the warranty companies is they will always replace like-for-like.

As far as i was aware, a split CV Boot has always resulted in MOT failure??

£220 to replace !!! ??? Thank god you did have a warranty then!

Ive always used the neoprene ones off Bay-e for less than a tenner on past cars ive had. In fact ive had one on my current Mondeo for several years without any further hassle. Takes about an hour to do.
