Hi guys,

Quick question. What do you call that battery retainer thingy which keeps the battery from moving about in its tray? I'm just about to take the bike out of hibernation, and I can't find it anywhere. I remember taking it off when I was putting the battery on the Optimate in late December. But God alone knows what I did to it next.... So it looks like I'm going to have to buy a new one...

Thanks!

Steve, thanks. Not sure the Nippy Normans website lists it under that name :-)

Thanks Steve. Cammy, I'll have another look in the garage - if I can't find it tomorrow, I'll get in touch if that's OK? Thanks!

If you get an Odyssey it will need a new battery thingy, though they usually comes with one as part of the kit. Anything really nice like the Ballistic will need special brackets as its so tiny.

My odyssey was so big it didn't need a battery strap, it filled the void completely. In fact if I remember correctly there are fitting instructions that say you need to bend the strap way out of shape even to get anywhere near fitting. You really don't need it (the strap that is, the batteries are ace).

The Odyssey strap is needed to stop the battery bouncing up and down. I have to faff about to fit mine - drop it down at a corner and slide it along to the clip but it does the job. Also, the heavy cables fit more easily with the battery back to front and no need for the bean tin extension plate.

Odyssey.... Ballistic.... How about a fairly knackered old Varta?

Why do people bother with Odyssey batteries?
They don't fit, require all sorts of arsing around with cables and trade CCA for capacity...

If you run out of petrol 10 miles from home with an odyssey you can put your bike in top gear and ride home on the starter button - that's what they told me anyway.:augie

Oh yes. .
Go cheap and cheerful (or used as I did) or go balls out high tech for a lot more cash.
If I'd not been offered a nearly new Odyssey, I'd have sprung it for a Ballistic. It fits fine if you put the terminals towards the air box and rearrange the starter cables.
