Hi Folks, I'm having a dilemma, I've purchased some beautiful black aluminium panniers for a 2017 GS, they have arrived but no key, the plastic key was sent a while ago but hasn't arrived, is there anything I can do?

The lids are unlocked, however the frame locks are locked and closed. I'm wanting to removed the barrells to code them to my key, but without the correct key this obviously can't be done, do I have any options other than sending them back for a refund?

Three lock smiths have been unable to assist.

It's not looking good, surely there is a way.

Appreciate any help.

Dave

If the pannier lids are unlocked then you have access to the 4 self tapping screws holding the frame locks onto the panniers. Remove these screws and the locks can be removed and disassembled. They are quite simple construction with few moving parts and will allow you to get to the barrel spring loaded locking tab. Depress the tab with a small flat bladed screw driver and the barrel can be removed. Note: put a key into the lock before removing or the lock wafers and tiny springs will fall out. Do them one at a time over a clean surface so you can spot any errant springs making a bid for freedom.
