That's a wrap...

very good job there Count,,,

Panniers look so different...

All Carbon would look stealthy as has been said,,,

I will check them out think the ThunderGun would look good like that..:thumb2

Wrap = chavtastic.

Sorry, not my cup of tea at all. The colour scheme works though :)

Andres

The same protection would be offered with a clear wrap but I chose to alter the appearance of the bike. I knew it would divide opinion but the panniers especially look way better all black IMHO

Sincerely

Chav (Latin for Count)

So Chav Dracula ...

How intricate can the carbon wrap go? Would it do the rear (token of a ..) mudguard??

carbon fibre is cool and none of the 1150 dinosaurs will approve.

You're partly correct about carbon fibre being cool but not sure your cling film is:augie

I was curious as to how much the wrap would take to more intricate curves. It is not that thin but it does get very mailable with heat applied. It easily handles the raised BMW lettering on the panniers and these are more subtle than the GS logo on the rear guard. I think you could wrap the guard no problem if you chose to do so.

Look very good to me makes the bike look very different. BMW will be getting the carbon bits ready as we speak:augie

My current plan for the engine is to get a crud catcher and wrap it. It would be a good place to have another carbon highlight on the bike. I'm waiting on engine bars and cylinder guards from TT along with some other bits - they are late on everything it seems.

I'm not looking to get the bike too tarty, this was just a way to protect the panels and make a change at the same time.

Too late me thinks :augie

Saw Stevies bike in Ocean today. It was in a state of undress so asked what he wants done to it this time and the tank side panels are away for a carbon wrap.
Must see that before he picks it up (eventually that is!) and disappears into deep darkest Bodmin moor.

This thread just reminded me of the Count. Where'd he go?

Traded in for the next best thing probably :D

I paid £200. The bike was with him about 3 1/2 hours with two of them at one point. It seemed a fair enough price to me. I couldn't do the job as well and he took his time and did it properly. The raw materials are probably about £30 or so I'd guess.

Seems a fair price for a good job to me......comparing it to a re-spray, it's about the same (maybe a bit more) but your wrap is removable :thumb2

I actually like the look (and yes, I'm another lebbenfiddy lover/owner) :thumb

PS I wish you toilet pilots would stop being so sensitive.......you'll actually find a lot less comments ANTI the toilet from most of us 11xx riders than you seem to imagine.

:comfort

That actually looks good without being In Your face bling.

I expected more than 200£.

Hmmmmmm.
Do they know you made them few customers?

You got it mate :D
The annoying thing is the ships computer is blocked, so i cant see any of counts pictures , but im having the black intakes, black carbon wrapped and the grey side panel done in the grey /Silver Di/noc.
Its about the same price as Counts guy. Just waiting on completion ,then back on and i will put some photos up
drop me a pm if you wanna meet up:bounce1

I'll pop up some pics of the bikes being ACF50 treated on Sunday

Where are you getting that done? I was hoping to do my own as soon as I picked up my bike...but now going straight from Vines to Wales. So I was thinking I might just get it done professionally when I get back....as the bike will probably need a clean anyway :augie

By the way, I like the carbon fibre wrap....will have to workout where it will look good on my Thundergrey :D

Red is faster, black and red is cooler, carbon fibre is cool and none of the 1150 dinosaurs will approve.

With that motivation, I decided to protect some parts of the new bike and take the opportunity to subtly change the appearance at the same time. I used a company called BossDog in Dorking to wrap the sides of both panniers (Varios), the two large grey side panels and also to wrap the tank around the protective pad up to the filler cap.

Some pics of the process, comparison and results are below. I decided I was happy for them to wrap with the whole bike there, not remove the panels. It wasn't an issue really to wrap with the panels in place. They used 3M carbon fibre wrap which protects and is easier than clear protection to apply. It should be resilient and has a decent finish/texture. If I don't like it, I can change it and the panel underneath remains perfect.

So, some shots (the first few just taken with my iPhone so quality not fantastic):

The panel is cleaned, the wrap applied to most prominent section and laid over. This wasn't applied with water but dry and using a hot air blower to warm the wrap and allow it to be manipulated around the curves:

Then, the clever bit is making sure all the edges are sorted and the wrap edges are done:

Once applied, you start to get a feel of the look:

This is the comparison from the rear of the two finishes, original and wrap:

Then he finished the other side (he noticed the difference in these panels as the engine is slightly difference each side). After that they also did both the pannier aluminium sections, pretty straightforward:

I also had a clear section on the tank which was applied with water and will dry over the next few hours, I could ride it away but it's still not 100% as the water needs to evaporate.

Back home, I took a few shots to show the final overall look with the panniers fitted, it was starting to rain so the pannier looks like it has bubbles but actually those are rain drops! The wrap is sufficiently flexible that the raised BMW lettering on the panniers is retained, it will shape and form to quite complex small detail.

Overall, this was an easy way to protect the side panels and make a subtle change to the look of the bike. I like the quality of the finish and I'm protecting the panniers and the main side panels/tank. It's probably not to everyone's taste but that's OK as I can change it as I please and I'm happy with the results.
