thats why i love the harley

just popped out on saturday afternoon to waitrose ,its only 20 mins awaybut it was great .
sunny day ,light jacket weather,and its the first time ive really opened it up from the traffic lights .
it goes really well ,dont let anybody tell you harleys are slow . Its the smile factor you cant explain to people .
even if ive only gone out for 20 minutes i allways think ,i loved that ,20 mins ,2hrs ,2 days ,its allways the same when i park it up ,I look at it as i leave the garage and think cant wait to go out again .
now dont get me wrong,all the gaera i had were brilliant ,did the job ,but never moved me .i never looked at them in the garage and thought i love that bike ,it did a job very well .
i think ive just talked myself back into keeping the bike ,and ill save for a gs next year .

ive probably reapeted myself here ,but its just a confirmation to me to keep the bike ((ill look at the speedo tommorow )

There is something about Harleys...

I had a demo on a Softail Slim yesterday at Sycamore Harley in Uppingham, and I loved it. There is something evocative about them, the clutch is heavy, gearchange chunky, and it feels unbelievably special.

Its a bit like buying a watch, the most accurate watch you can buy is a Casio, but people like the engineering and design (and history) that goes into Tags, IWCs, Omegas, Rolex and the like.

Id love a Harley in the garage (but then I am just the wrong side of 40).

Dave, save up for the GS.... It will be worth the wait... I'm saving up for a 1200GSA to keep the HD company...you know it makes sense...

I have to agree Dave, there's something about Harley's that just make them enjoyable to ride. For example after riding my GSA for a week or so I start thinking "this is such a great all 'round motorcycle why even have a Harley?" Then I take the FXDXI out and find myself riding at a relaxed pace and enjoying the ride differently, but just as much. I once made the mistake of selling my Super Glide regretting it even as the buyer (a friend) rode away on it. As luck would have it two years later he called and asked if I would be interested in buying it back? I did and I'm glad to have it back.
I like your idea of keeping your Harley and buying a GS next season. BMW's and Harley's are so different they compliment each other very well.

i think ill take twizzles advice (not many people would own up to that ) and save up ,i can have an 1150 gs/gsa next year .
i dont even have a purpose for a gs at the moment .

Hi Dave
I have to agree I have just about every bike you can ride starting from BSA c12
In 1966 to the BMW120RT that I ride today I have had 4 GSA,s the ultra I ride today I went to Harley Edinburgh with 10 other bikes this weekend all Harley's and we rode hard for the ride up and back . So me two I love mine this is my fourth Harley and won't part with it UNLESS its to bye another.

I have to agree too,

I've no intention of ever selling my Crossbones,

But I've covered it up so it can't see me going out on my new 1200 gs wc

Don't know what would happen if it found out
