The ‘79 California Rebuild Thread

The vehicle has to be over 40 years old. So it was ‘77, in 2017.

It was me, before they had all this rolling 40 year exemption & historic stuff, I'm sure it used to be 77, we used to fit BW plates and airhorns to our old triumphs / spitfires etc

it was the only way we could get one over on plod at the time ;)

Mind you the neighbours were p*ssed of with La Cucaracha every time i left the house ;) ;)

Oh, so that's a new one on me, I hadn't realised the yellow/black plate thing was rolling like the MOT/tax; I too thought it was 1977...... Anyway, FWIW (which is feck all), I've stuck with yellow on my P reg as that's what was fitted at the time :)

It’s a couple of forms to change status to historic vehicle, and the other benefits beyond a classy black and silver number plate are you get exemption from tax and MoT.

You can only legally fit a black/silver plate after you have changed the classification to Historic Vehicle.
Age alone is not sufficient.
The 40 year thing is from the April of the year after the machine becomes 40 years old.

Tarka is correct. As ever.

It took one visit to the post office, a couple of forms and a 5 week wait. Worth it I think, especially as now there’s no MoT or tax to bother with.

I recently re classed my 1979 c90 to historic class no probs, took about a week to get the log book back. Not bothered that I can’t put a black plate on it tbh, but I might put on on my 76 Cali.
I’ve never been one for vanity but it would go well with the black n white/silver theme of the California. :toungincheek

Yes the black and silver goes well with this one!

In other news, tank and side panels are back from the paint shop.

What do you mean by "not bothered that I can’t put a black plate on it tbh,"?
You can, now that it's a Historic Vehicle.

I stand erected. 40 year rolling so I can but nah, still can’t be arsed, it’s only a crunchy after all. :D

Fellas. You’re due an apology, there’s a lot going on at Nin towers, which means I’ve not been giving the Guzzi the attention it deserves.

But if you would forgive me, I’ve:
just got a new job,
just got a donor bike for my lifelong aspiration since I first saw a Gaston Rahier Dakar bike (I’ll start another thread on that elsewhere)
Just had the workshop rewired and re-lit.
just got a new everyday bike and
just ....

well that’s enough isn’t it?

The weekend should see some progress with wiring up the Italian, then it’ll be first startup videos. Stick with me, we’ll be fine.

No apologies needed Nin.
Live gets in the way of toys / projects at times & sometimes it's good to take a break...

Having said that, your still a slacker .....

:pullface

Feck you Ash. And the horse you rode in on.

Very impressed with your rehabilitation home for neglected Guzzis though.

Wow!
What did you do after lunch? :P

I hate wiring.

Remove the old connector, replace the wire if it’s knackered (about 25% were), replace the connector, crimp and solder.

Repeat 60 times.

The workshop looks very different.
