The 2820 screen size is too small in my book

I bought my 276c in a hole in the wall in Al Kharj.
Pure luck to find how much it suits me. I have a 3+ which got me started.
276C - big clear screen, reasonable big buttons, built-in lithium battery, stick memory, cheap mounts for car / bike from RAM.
Bought the SP3 to get the maps, itis ok but you can see how much better the 276c is by contrast!
Clear?

Just another note about full screen mode on the 2820... as I was playing today while driving... dumb I know...

I've discovered that when you go full screen mode (sorry don't know how on the 2720), you still get the transparent zoom buttons showing, but now in the upper corners... but you also, when navigating a route, get a transparent pop-up arrow and distance to turn over on the LH side of the screen.

I'm positive that if enough people asked for more transparent items to be added to the full map view screen, Garmin could easily add them in a future firmware...

If I manage to make up a custom remote (5 or 6 buttons on the LH bar sending IR commands to the GPS.. it would be easy enough to pop into the next turn (speak) dialogue, and visit the console thingy... and I could get used to living in full screen just as it is...

A perfect illustration. :clap

.... i tell you what else i don't like about the 2820 ... the sound quality is rubbish.

I plugged it into my Autocom and it's unusable - it emits a high pitched humming noise & it's impossible to hear any music when the volume is set to 50% or below on the 2820 - all you can hear is a loud hum. It also hums with my headphones plugged directly into it but nowhere near as bad as when it's fed into an Autocom.

I read elsewhere that the sound quality of the 2820 isn't great but never in a million years thought it would be this bad. The included microphone for bluetooth use is also rubbish - all that comes out is muffled gibberish ( and no, that's not me :D )

The same as araspitfire pointed out above, the + & - zoom buttons are transparent so why Garmin can't make the tabs transparent is a mystery. I sent them an e-mail to ask if it's possible to set them to transparent. If enough people ask, you never know.

hey mr tickle il swap you for your system for my perfect sp3 colourmap!!

I suspect its 'ground loop feed back' Mr Tickle you might need an audio isolator between the GPs and the Autocom. Autocom make one (for a price) I made my own for around £3 with parts from Maplin (3 resistors and 1 audio transformer) It works supremely well, thanks Ron!

I must be missing something simple when play with the set up of my 2720.
How do you get it to work in full screen mode?????

Thanks,
Mr Ignorant.
If you mean "how do I get the map to cover all the screen?", then it's Settings>Map>Map Data Fields>None>OK

FWIW, my favourite setting with Map Data Fields = Thin are as follows...

Navigation Data Fields:
  • Data Field 1: Distance to Turn / Turn Time
  • Data Field 2: Next Turn
  • Data Field 4: Arrival Distance / Arrival Time
Non-Navigating Data Fields:
  • Data Field 1: Speed / Heading / Time
  • Data Field 2: Elevation
  • Data Field 3: Next Turn
Hope this helps!

OK, let's take an inventory of your complaints so far:

1) You don't like the fact that the screen depicts a more detailed image, but it has not occurred to you to press the zoom button to view the image at the same size as your previous GPSR.

2) You don't like the guidance message across the top, or the time to go fields across the right, but you aren't willing to read the owner manual and find out how to set the display up the way you want it.

3) You think the GPSR was too expensive, but you didn't bother to take 5 minutes to compare the 27xx and 28xx and discover that the 27xx would have given you what you wanted, even though Garmin has a side by side comparison tool available here: Mobile Electronics Product Comparison.

4) You're complaining about the sound output of your Autocom intercom, blaming the GPSR, when the problem has nothing to do with the GPSR. It's entirely your fault, you didn't bother to read the part of the user manual that explains how to switch between 'speaker output' and 'line output', depending on what you are feeding the signal to.

Tickle, you are wasting our time here. Whinging in ignorance is a like pissing down your pant leg - it might make you feel warm and comfortable, but it doesn't hold any interest for anyone else. Read the friggin' manual, spend a week getting used to the thing, and then if you have any questions, ask them.

Let's face it, Geoff, you're getting on now, and even the road is too small!

What is it about these 276 owners that make them so fanatical? I reckon a 1150GSA owner with a 276 would be my definition of a Luddite :D :D
Hmmm -

- why are there no threads about problems with the 276C?

- why are 276C owners seldom replacing their GPS's with other models? Why are there no second hand 276C for sale?

- why are 276C owners not interested in cosmetic nonsense as 3D, bluetooth, touch screens, preinstalled maps, etc?

Because we love motorbike riding! The 276C is just a tool that helps us stay on the nicest roads. No other GPS can do this better than the 276C! :thumb

i love my 2610 and would replace it if it busted. its purfect for me bike/car/truck, 2g card all of europe, route planing from pc, and the most important feature is i dont have to f**k about with it when i'm riding. providing they keep updating maps for it it will be the last one i'll buy. i've also got v which to be honest is useless forbig millage (now used for hangliding) and an sp3, again a good unit but the memory size let it down.

Does the purchase of an item and it's ensuing dissappointment not give rights to said owner to have a moan about it?

Seemingly not where Garmin and Mr Pan European are concerned :nenau

Hey guys, I think I have a pretty good track record here of being patient, courteous and helpful with newbies, but honestly, I don't suffer fools well - least of all bumptious ones.

Denester: Just so there is no confusion of any kind, I want to stress that I don't work for Garmin, and I don't get paid anything by them, and I do not have any authorization to speak for them... which means that whatever I say here is entirely my own opinion. I do not, under any circumstances, speak for Garmin.

Far too good a record!

For Goodness' sake, Michael, tell them to RTFM and that they're all tossers (especially that Tickle fella)!

Michael, I too have a lot of background hiss when I connected my custom speaker moulded earplugs into my new 2820. When I read your reply regarding changing the type of audio output, I re-checked the manual and followed the instructions. Only problem is, the menu doesn't go beyond what should be the penultimate heading of Speed adjusted volume. But on my system there are no further headings.

I know you have to use the scroll arrows to read up and down, but believe me - the Audio jack option just isn't there. Please tell me I'm doing something wrong coz for the life of me I can't find the Audio Jack option.

Cheers,

Phil

You're in cuckoo land. Show me where I said any of the above you DICKHEAD

1)You don't like the fact that the screen depicts a more detailed image, but it has not occurred to you to press the zoom button to view the image at the same size as your previous GPSR.

I said the screen on the 2810 looses around 1 inch of it's display because it doesn't have transparent tabs - you DICK

[2) You don't like the guidance message across the top, or the time to go fields across the right, but you aren't willing to read the owner manual and find out how to set the display up the way you want it.

Where did I say that - you DICK

3) You think the GPSR was too expensive, but you didn't bother to take 5 minutes to compare the 27xx and 28xx and discover that the 27xx would have given you what you wanted, even though Garmin has a side by side comparison tool available here: Mobile Electronics Product Comparison.

I said the 2610 is far better value than the 2820 - you DICK

It's entirely your fault, you didn't bother to read the part of the user manual that explains how to switch between 'speaker output' and 'line output', depending on what you are feeding the signal to.

I said the hum is there with a pair of headphones connected to it as well and the supplied microphone from Garmin is useless on my unit. And as Phil stated above, there is no Audio Jack option even though it shows it in the manual - you DICK

Just because you brown nose for Garmin doesn't mean I swallow all your B.S. You in fact p1ss me right off. Grow up :spitfire
