The art of layering / best airflow jackets

Indeed, especially ooop north where its often very changeable over large counties or cold in spring.

I know a lot swear by them but i felt by Marrakesh armour is very thin, perhaps would be ok offroad, hitting concrete/metal objects at high speed when you weigh 100kg with 2mm of soft rubber in between, jury is out for me.

Settled on Carlsbad. It covers most bases for me.
You do realise that ‘soft rubber’ goes hard on impact ? I guess not .

Yep, those sales are great. Means buying what you think you’ll want at some point but maybe don’t need right now sometimes.

I bought a pair of the excellent waterproof Rokket jeans in the last sale, to keep for when mine wear out
Bloody brilliant .
I got my Marrakesh at something like 40% off in a Black Friday sale.
Got the Zephyr under half price in Sunday sale. Same with Rokker Cargos.
Same with Bering Hurricane, which is the best Goretex laminate jacket I’ve ever had and cost me under £300 ! Then a few weeks later , ML emailed me offering the Hurricane pants on same deal .
So I’ve got a Goretex laminate suit that is far more comfortable and more waterproof than the Rukka Nivala and cost me under £600 all in , whereas just the Nivala jacket is now £1400 !

D30 armour is the market leader . What would you consider more substantial?
You won’t have anything safer unless you go for an airbag vest .
just feel more comfortable from a safety aspect with the Carlsbad jacket as the lattice style is thin/flexible and therefore I'd be concerned about individual load/pressure points versus spreading force across the entire pad on something harder, the Carlsbad protection on the elbows also seems to cover more surface area but may be wrong there.

Fair enough

Was in France last week and used a Triumph branded mesh jacket - worked well up to circa 35 degrees but when it got to closer 40 degrees you felt like you needed to keep the breeze out as it no longer had a cooling effect. Overall though worked better than my usual Klim Badlands jacket with lots of vents.

Beyond evaporation, the air moving through has nothing more than an illusory effect.

If the ambient air temperature is say, 32 C, then it’s 32 C, not matter what you do.

Exactly.
Unless you pour water over yourself, it won't matter what gear you have on. Unless you ride with it all zipped up.

So at what point does the wind chill effect stop working 🤔

Once the sweat has evaporated (15 seconds) you're hot again, but at least you're not under a heavy jacket or laminated goretex.

Has to be more comfortable, but each to his own.

28c has always been tipping point for me, below that and you can feel the cooling affect of wind over your skin whether it’s a mesh jscket, or a a jacket either way vents, collars and cuffs open. Much above 28c though and you just seem to get hotter and hotter unless you soak your base layers in water.

Hottest I’ve been in is 44c in the badlands of Dakota and also in Death Valley. Both times I was unwisely wearing a black leather jacket which was best zipped up, and helmet visor kept firmly shut.

Similar in Luxembourg a month ago. I had a BMW cool vest under their mesh jacket. Worked a treat. I just dunked it in water at each stop. My KLIM Kodiak would have been a boil in the bag.

I think you are maybe answering your own question. Wind chill, is most commonly used alongside low temperatures. For example: “Tomorrow it will be three degrees but, with the wind chill, it will feel like minus one”.

Yes, it will feel like it, but it’s illusory. The actual temperature is three degrees.

Not seen Marrakesh pants , but getting them in black then expecting them to be cool is asking a bit much .

I use my Marrakesh jacket with Rokker Cargo Pants which have proved to be brilliant.
Much lighter than their jeans but same protection
Yes in hind site the light grey would probably have been a wiser choice.

My Single layer jeans are much better than the Marrakesh trousers I got with my first suit. The Marrakesh trousers didn’t really feel like they flowed much air, and they were black.

I’m actually ashamed to admit it, but I’ve never bought from aliexpress! Lol
How long does it take to get here from China?
And there’s probably a high chance this £20 bargain might end up straight in the bin?!
Might risk it with something else, but definitely not clothing unless recommended on here 🤔
