The best seat for 1100/1150?

For the first time my arse started to hurt on the last longer rides I've done. Never happened before.

Looks like my stock seat is about to be worn out of "comfort zone", now with silly shape and "squeezed" foam over time (10 years old bike).

So what do you reckon is the best seat:

Corbin
Sargent

Both of them look super wide comfty from the rear part while the front part remains slim so I can do stand-up riding too.

Anything else? Your thoughts and experiences on different aftermarket seats? Quality, how long they'll last etc?

I've seen ten years old Corbin on another bike and it's still fresh'n'comfty, so looks like a worthy company-product pick?

My 1150GS from 1999 is no longer comfortable too. After 120 miles, I need to stop - mostly because the back of my legs. In long journeys when i take secondary roads, i ride standing on the pegs when crossing towns as I have to do slowly anyway.

I was wondering if this is an option:

Maybe not practical on a journey as you may end removing it from the seat at night?

If you want a new seat get a sargent. Much better than the corbin I had which cracked after a while. I have a new one boxed which I bought for my 1150 then flogged the bike for a 1200. 230 and it's yours or anyone you don't fancy it. I advertised this a while back here .

Had my GS seat reupholstered with memory foam and recovered by some bloke in Wolverhampton (I think). Brilliant. I'll stick his contact details on when I get home.
Also try lowering foot pegs and gear change. Made a big difference to my achey legs on long trips. Also makes you look like a hero as you deck the pegs a bit earlier.

One thing I've noticed over the years.... you VERY rarely see a Corbin for sale second hand thats PERFECT.

I think everyone I've seen this year... both on this site and ebay has had some damage... normally stitching thats parted.

If you've been so happy with the original seat for so long Margus... why not do whats already been said.. have it repacked with a higher quality foam... and a layer of memory foam. That way you can have any personalisation done at the same time.. maybe have the seat raised a little... or whatever.

I got a second hand XXHIGH Touratwat seat that had been recovered and repacked... and its fabulous. The price was pretty Fabulous too.

Just fitted a sargent seat to my gs 1150, did not believe the difference !! no numb bum, slightly wider than the std seat, but far better in the comfort stakes, just done a 260 mile trip no aches at all really reccomend you get one (one for sale on this site 230 quid new).

I have a melvern hunter ?(did have a business card under but has disapeared) its the origional recovered and was on the bike when I got it 5 years ago, super comfy, grippy and still looks good after lots of use.

Thats the guy that did mine, Melvin Hunter. Also about 5 years ago.
Have looked but can't find card or old invoice. A google'd probably find him 'cos from memory he only did bike seats. Brilliant job though and advantage is you can make it wider or narrower or shorter or taller or softer or..............................................

always a very subjective question.
i have had corbin before on my r1100rse and my r1150gs,
for shorties like me they are a bit wide ,so make it harder to reach the ground with your feet.
but guess you are taller than 5ft 7 so that shouldnt be a problem.
are you just talking rider seat or rear as well?

i am a fan of the sargent,my bike was on the NEC stand for the uk sargent seat dealers in 2002 displaying the latest sargent product.
covered fortythousand miles on it,it is very comfy after the first couple of thousand miles.some waer to the piping edge but overall still in good condition.
seat base is carbon type material,looks a better finish than the corbin.

the only real way in my book is to buy and try out.
they always resell for a good going rate.
sargents are a bit more common now than in 2002,so you can pick them up cheaper used or nearly new.
if i was you i would make an offer on the one for sale on this site.
try it out.if its not for you resell and try the corbin

I noticed on the Sargent site they mention that it's 1/2 inch lower than standard... I couldn't find any mention of a hight seat option??

The Sargent seat IS lower... and though I asked. I was told that they could not make a higher version... So its fine for Mr Average or the shorter rider - but worse than useless for me - I'm 1.98m

As I mentioned above.. I managed to find a 2nd hand Touratech 1 piece 'sport seat' 3.5" higher than standard... and Its fantastic.

You have to try different seats, as there is no hard and fast "this is better than that" seat. Each type suits different people.

I've tried them all. And the Corbin suits MY backside the best.

16 hours non stop in the saddle back in 2006 painless.

Corbin for me they are more comfortable as they get older.

put on me moto, no more back pain, long rides seem half
the distance... did have a touratech one and believe me
it was a right pain in the arse, sold it with in a few months

... although the GSA (one piece) version does not leave a lot of room for a pillion; but that's ok 'cos she has her own bike

The Corbin is 1.5" lower than stock, but you don't gain a lot of advantage because it's considerably wider
