Right. Replaced ALL the throttle cables (upper, lower left and lower right), as they were all nasty corroded and sticky. And because I sheared the adjuster off the lower left one like a numpty.

Then, before I got the fuel tank back on, I (or was it my girlfriend?....MUST have been) managed to tread on the cheap plasticky fuel line quick release connecter, snapping it in half. As well as shear the handlebar end bolt, trying to get it back in. That was her too :augie

........(few days and parts later)

Everything connected , engine started-straight to redline. One (very) quick ignition key switch-off, before any damage done, double-check all the lines for any snagging or incorrect route-ing or incorrect adjustment, all looks fine: splitter working, both cams working freely on throttle operation; both in "closed" position when throttle is not engaged. Cautiously re-check ignition-straight to redline again with no throttle given on handlebar grip at all.

hmmmm....will I ever learn? What gives? has the shop supplied me with a too-short length of upper throttle cable? (I have a GSA-not sure if the throttle upper is different from the GS). Is it that I had to disconnect the throttle position sensor to replace the cable? If it is this, do I have to recover the bike to the shop to reset the throttle position sensor, or is there any other way out here, even if it means having to buy the gs-911? My girlfriend also cleaned the blue marks off the throttle body cam stop screws, so they might have gone out of adjustment, but I paid attention to trying not to touch these if at all possible-could this cause the problem?

what to do what to do?

if I have to go another day without my beloved steed, I'll go spare.

cheers all in advance

I've played with many bikes in the past, but have no experience of the GSA yet as mine is still under warranty. (just)

Have you tried the starting the engine with the cable detached? (is it possible for the ECU to control the tick over *Nissan Skyline does this* assuming it is an injection bike)

At least that way you'll know if the bike is doing some thing really odd, or if it was your girlfriend who connected them up for you incorrectly. :augie

thanks xjrjason-why didnt i think of that? i'll give it a go in the morning and report back. any other ideas greatfully received.....

Remove both air inlet pipes to the throttle bodies and then look to see if the throttle butterflies open and close fully and properly when the throttle is twisted. My guess is that one or both are staying open when the throttle is fully closed.

Bear in mind that even a little throttle action will rev the nuts off your engine when it is not under any load in neutral, a bit like when you hit a false neutral when riding and rev the nuts off it.
