Following a thread in Beakchat and Bollocks on here regarding Atheism , I wondered about statements made about the Yorkshire Dales in trip reports as being Gods Own Country.:rob

Having prepped me bike for Winter after the first ice on the roads in the Peaks, decided to have a run up t` Dales so I could see for myself. Gods own or summat else.

Leaving Sheffield at 10am for Masham as a start point, lovely weather 10deg C. Wrapped up warm.
Approaching Masham from Junction 50 off A1the road is closed, right turn follow me nose, bloody sat nag,,, “ere fat bloke make a U turn” tried to ignore but ended up turning it off. :thumbThe upside is going through villages and using roads I`ve never been on.:)

The route from Masham is nearly all backroads, the roads are brilliant to exciting.,standing water mud and leaves, lovely. Only come across the odd vehicle but see quads and tractors emerging from farms and fields and they are not expecting to see a big lad on a bike (especially in the rain) .

All change, rain coming in heavy now on approach to Kettlewell.

The Sun returns and the Light quality is excellent,

There is no denying the beauty and diversity even in the rain. If there is a God and he has had a hand in its design good on him.
The whole area as a National Park is managed to keep it looking wonderful , like all the other Parks in the Uk.

I`m still an Aethist ,thank God:D

Yes JB did go through Snape, the trip up was rushed as usual ,last minute. Will be back if time permits. Forecast was good for today, but saw much rain on the run into Kettlewell.
Will post the name of a bit of me route that was brilliant cant remember its name at the mo.:thumby:

The Dales is now officially closed for tourists...

How did you get in

It's being painted ready for the TDF ;)

Eyup Cooperman, went in under radar sneaky like on backroads. Quite a bit of new tarmac down in places , impressed. Probably in preparation for TDF. Could of done with a yellow Jersey today at times, when taking photos felt cold in the wind at 6 deg C.:D

At least they are more likely to surface it properly with tarmac, rather than the loose grit they did this year.
Mind you could be fun having the TDF racing on grit, bit like Rally Cross.

Yes have to agree even though i'm from over the border, them Yorkys have a nice back garden. I sneek over there myself on the odd occasion:thumb

And though the world is filled
With the grace and beauty of God's hand
I wish I were blind
When I see you with your man

Bruce Springsteen. Great lyrics. Just thought I'd share that with you. Atheist here too.

By the way, Donegal is God's Own Country. Apart from the Scottish Highlands, that is.
:bow

Great photos. I am off camping this weekend in the Dales. So looking forward to a bit of that myself.

God's own country indeed :thumb2

Like I said 'Respect'.....One or two brass monkeys out there......Have a great trip....:thumb2

It's certainly more impressive than anything in lowland Scotland......but I do love the Highlands and Islands :flag

Having said that, when I'm on my way home back from Scotland and turn off the A6 and head into the Dales around Sedburgh (and it was part of Yorkshire when I was born before it ws nicked off us in 1974  ) I always feel invigorated by the stunning views - it makes me proud to be a Yorkshireman - its different to Highland Scotland, but also special too

Sim enjoy your trip, camping:eek: some of the back roads were extremely muddy tractors leaving lots of muck on road, makes it more exciting. Have a good one.:thumby:

Micky I will pm if another free day pops up, usually leave home at 10am as traffics dropped off. Be good if JB can come out to play, his knowledge of the area and cakey shops is much greater than mine.:)
See what weathers like night before, light blue touch paper and I'm off. Be good to ride with you again :thumby:

Hello Redrick, will pm when next jaunt planned, all short notice such is my life. Look forward to meeting you at some point.:thumby:
