Speaking as an MOT Tester on both cars and bikes. I can confirm that as long as the headlamp aim and beam pattern are correct then HIDs will pass the MOT.

However Construction and Use laws are different to MOT rules.
A vehicle can pass an MOT and still be in a condition that does not comply to C & U Law and therefore not roadworthy.

Loads of other things are like this on the MOT, Side front windows which are tinted for example. It is Law I'm afraid Digger. Although you are unlikely to be prosecuted if you keep the aim correct etc.

Do you think there's actually a government department that sits around thinking up new ways to make themselves look like twats?

I for one wish someone would ban those things.

This autumn will again feature endless morons who insist on trying to turn our roads back to daylight and blinding everyone else in the process.

Nah not a problem, my mate rides with one on all year round and it is fine, actually makes him very visible to me in my rear view mirrors :) and oncoming traffic.

I used to get flashed when I first installed them, kept dipping them down until I don't get any flashes. Hopefully I'm not annoying anybody, but they certainly light the road well.

DOT article doesn't really shed that much light on things (boom boom). Don't really care what they think, I'm not taking them off, I'd rather loose all the other technically illegal bits on my bike first.
