I am just putting a trip together for the Faroes. My father was stationed there during WW2, he was in command of convoy escorts. I have some of his pictures from up there from that time and I want to try and take a modern view of the same places - mostly around Torshavn. Other than that I am exploring and going to do a bit of fishing - taking my telescopic rod, nothing too serious. There are good roads and spectacular scenery. I haven't decided on dates yet, probably August, but I am waiting on some local info to help with decision making.

The ferry is from the northern end of Denmark, Hirstals, so Hook of Holland seems best and then ride round from there. It isn't that far. Room for one or two bikes if anyone wants to join me. I will be going anyway.

Fantasic destination...............We were lucky enough to visit and tour around the islands on the way to and from Iceland a few times!

....and the ferry that goes there from Denmark passes within spitting distance of the Shetlands but doesn't call in.

...aaarrrggghhhh!

Johnny Ingram says he can see it from one of the salmon farms he works at..................Rest assured he shouts a few expletives at it as it sails off in the distance towards The Faroes!

Absolutely crazy in my view and The Shetland Council still owns shares in the boat!:blast

I launched into correspondence about the whole debacle a few years ago and got the full sorry tale.
Shetland council bent over backward.....including buying shares. Smyril just wouldn't go for it.
It beggars belief. It really does.
Just imagine........what a brilliant trip that would be.
Aberdeen, Shetland, Faroes, Iceland..........superb.

I might be interested - its a not-that-common-a-place to go ride the bike. Drop me a PM if your still thinking of going. We dont know each other so it would be prudent to meet up earlier in 2015 to ensure we dont immediately hate one another :clap

Just imagine...............!

We used it several times from 2005 costing between £800 and £1050 for the two of us on one bike from Aberdeen to Lerwick with Northlink and then Shetland to the Faroes and Seydisfjordur east Iceland and it was superb!!

Now I just fly Glasgow to Keflavik, Iceland and take my mountain bike with me..............I even though of taking the ferry from Seydisfjordur-Faroes-Seydisfjordur for a couple of days just to get back to the Faroes

I did like that Specsavers advert where the shepherd accidentally clipped his dog instead of his sheep!

Bloody thing stopped running in 2007 just as I was getting back into biking. Wish I'd done the trip while it was there.
Oh we'll. You never know. They might bring it back one day.....

Some great info there chaps. I am in discussion with the Faroes Tourist Board (Visit Faroes) about local knowledge and stuff. Once I have my dates sort of sorted I will let you know.

LMG - if you are in South Yorkshire you are not that far from me. Maybe it would be worth meeting for a coffee and chat somewhere in the peaks, being equidistant for the both of us, and neautral ground!

Sounds like a plan! In the New Year of course :)

I was going to get me a shytebag but my inability to read stopped that in its trax...

im not coming if tassles are involved (unless they are on female strippers)

Happy New Year ladies! What's the plan then? Shall we get a date in the diary to hook up and talk about this?

Sent from SYDland....

Those who Pmd me I gave my number to - I have had no phone calls and have only just managed to get myself back in here -I don't find it straightforward or easy all this technology.

I have my dates now. Mt ferry from Hirstals is on 18th Aug and I am coming back on the 23rd August. I can't get more holiday than this, so those few days will have to do me. Anyone who expressed an interest, please get in touch again. I can't find any of your contacts. I am taking fishing gear, camping gear but hope to use the hostel.

Dropped you a pm. When do you plan on setting off from the UK? Do you have any prices to share for the ferry? And is wild camping allowed there if guest houses aren't available?

I haven't go that far yet, just looking into the accommodation side of things. Camp sites are available - and who is there to stop you wild camping? If you pitch at 23.00 and strike at 07.00, who the hell will know? :aidan

Hostel in Torshavn is about 80 Euros. HOStel, not hotel.
