Great write-up - really enjoyed it. Iceland has been on a want-to-visit list for a while (along with everyone else, it seems!)
Tell me though, what was the rough cost of getting there from Denmark? Smyril Lines are advertising a special bike offer of €1400 for the Denmark-Faroe-Iceland service
Is that about right?

Ok. I admit it, I'm a numpty... 
Just re-read the advert for their offer and it is including 2 nights accomodation in the Faroes and 7 nights in Iceland...
Time for bed I think!

It is one of the places that you are drawn to visit... pics like this just make you want to go there even more..
but if like me.. you get an allergic reaction to boats you would try anything to avoid that ferry journey..
I found a thread on horizons unlimited where a bloke shipped his bike from Immingham to Iceland (Rekjavik) for £300 return
with this lot http://eimskip.com/Desktopdefault.aspx
now considering the rental rates for a F650-GS are
1-3 days: €165/day
4-7 days: €150/day
8+ days: €135/day
it kinda makes sense to use your own.. at least you can drop it and not get screwed for any damage..
