After all the previous trials and tribulations of ownership I now find the paint bubbling on my filler cap can I reject this bike under the sales of goods act?

Just come indoors from doing the 'fuel tank mod' - I noticed the paint starting to bubble on my filler cap as well. Thought I'd mention it on the board but you've just beaten me to it!

I assume it can be replaced under warranty?

But what caused it? That is the $64 m question.

Is it the Shite paint work or petrol spillage?

Or, if youhave done the tank mod, can BMW reject a warranty claim for tampering???

Sorry to be the bringer of doom and all that jazz :(

Doing the "tank mod" doesn't involve the filler cap so I doubt you'd have a problem there.

I've found BMW (or at least my local dealer) to be more than fair when considering warranty claims on a bike that's been "modified" by myself :D

I reckon a batch of duff paint, or a duff application. I've sprayed petrol all over the damn thing on a couple of occasions with no damage to the paintwork.

Mine's October 2004 - As I said I only noticed because I was doing the fuel tank mod which involves removing the filler cap - otherwise I wouldn't have noticed - it's barely noticable at the moment but still enough to suggest that it will get worse/spread - like the front engine cover which has also started to go! I intend to get them changed at the end of the summer before the warranty runs out.

Have had 2 engine guards, 2 cylinder heads and both wheels replaced - all under warranty and all with bubbling paint. They should replace it all for you.
