An article in the latest edition of Motorrad magazine, prompted me to look a bit further into this little visited part of Germany.

In my tapping around in Google, I came across the German Fairytale Route, which looks as if it might make an interesting alternative to just “Do the Black Forest, mate”.

This was the article in the magazine. I have missed out the words, as they are all in foreign, but the pictures and the map work well:

The link takes you to the German Ride magazine’s quarterly publication, where you can download the routes;

It’s not far from the Hook of Holland:

It was when Googling the town of Bodenwerder, to do nothing more than create the rough Google Map route from Holland, that I tripped over the German Fairytale Route:

The entire route is a long way!

It would make a great two to three week holiday.

It's a nice area. I have only passed through on a single morning when heading west from Goslar in the Harz towards Siegen

If you draw a straight line from Koblenz to Hanover there is a whole swathe of interesting terrain. Few from the UK visit here. Lots of towns starting with Bad, so spa towns. Forests, river valleys and low hills.

I used to have the Mottorad Magazine which was really good. Then it because Motorrad and Reisen and now I stopped getting it when my last subscription ran out and I don’t seem to be able to find it or be able to renew. I prefer a hard copy than a downloadable version

Just to add I preferred the above publication as it was more about the travel than the bikes or tekky stuff.

Anyone got any links to renew.

I know that area of Germany reasonably although never ridden around the suggested route and its looks like a nice long weekend trip to try. Went a bit further west a good many years ago on a bike tour around Osnabruck. Nice quiet roads but generally pretty flat. Might look at something there early next year.

Best ‘secret’ in Europe.

I’m headed there with a group in June.

Easily leads you towards BF and Vosges too.

Did that and the Castle Route as well in the Hymer. The fairytale route was okay for the first few towns, then they all tend to look the same.

In addition I think the google drive time of 8 hours is a bit exaggerated. Osnabruck from The Hague is about 3 & 1/2 hours by motorway so my guess 5 is more like it. I used to drive regularly to Hamburg and that was 550 km and would take around 5 and a half hours on a good day.
Irrespective it’s doable for me in a 4 day weekend but probably have to review some of the routes. Looks very nice though

Looks good, but strangely
Googling “Fairytale Route Germany” comes up with a different route.

If I’ve understood you correctly. That’s the whole of the Fairytale Route. The route in post #1 is what led me to trip over the Fairytale Route. But that was only because I surfed around in Google, after finding the town of Bodenwerder.

I have amended the Hook of Holland to Bodenwerder on Google Map route, to now include motorways. I had excluded them this morning, as apparently nobody on this forum ever uses them. At least not when anyone is looking.

We do often and no qualms in doing so if we have a long way to go to our destination.

The French have the right idea. Charge people to use motorways from A to B, but make them (very usually) free to use to bypass cities.
It is a great idea as it keeps people out of the cities if they’re just wanting to get passed it.
We do use the peage for long distances too. How the anti motorway (we never use them) gang get a decent distance in a day I don’t know.
When I go to my lad’s place in Chamonix it would take two days if not using the peage. So whilst they’re not the most fun roads they do serve a very good purpose as I can be off the ferry in Rotterdam and in Chamonix in one long day.

Its a great area with some very good roads and scenery. Uslar is well known for "Eddy's Biker Grill" which is at "Biker Point Fuch's" https://bikerspoint-fuchs.de/ on the outskirts of Uslar, there's also a very good Transport Museum at Einbeck https://www.ps-speicher.de/ around the area there are a lot of popular viewpoints with cafe's which are popular biker meeting points.
