I note lots of mention of the Hall Sensor, plus HT lead issues from the mud island, I hear little here in the dry regions, the Leads yes I understand, but is the Hall Sensor more likely to deteriorate in damper conditions? I have no idea being a mechanical (do not even know what a a hall sensor is? I do know the Hall Effect though):nenau

There's a chap over on ADVrider who lives in the drylands... and says he replaces the hall sensor every two to three years.... he does do BIG mileages though. So I don't think its a weather thing... just either mileage or bad luck.

here's a picture so you can see where it is. Its purpose is to determine the position of the crankshaft for ignition timing.

From what I've heard, it's the engine heat that causes the Hall Sensor wiring to deteriorate over time, not damp etc. Steptoe may be able to shed more light on this?

Relatively easy to change though, just accurately scribe the case to mark the position of the sensor plate.

I would have thought that there was more going on than simply the wiring degrading.. if that were the cause of failure then it would be a relatively simple matter to replace the wiring.. rather than spend over £100 on a complete unit.

I'm definitely no expert though.

Also, thats why I asked, but happily going to carry on untill it fails
