The HP2 Sport has landed

Yonky,

I thought you were a man of taste, buying an HP2 Sport, but then you go and fcuk it up by showing your ZX10 fitted with a

GREEN HEADLAMP PROTECTOR

:augie

Nice Bike RC... liked it in the white, stunning..

Nice pictures of Yonko's green headlight protector... need to push that right elbow into the corner a bit more though fella!

Great quote from Guy Martin in this months PB (I know..hardly a great magazine, but mate visiting last week brought it) he's talkiing about people at track days bragging about how fast they are.. he's words go something like this... Rossi is fast, you aint fast... I'm not fast, but I'm F*cking faster than you.. get over it, you aint fast... Mike Hailwood was fast you aint.. I thought it kind of summed up the fast group nonsense..

Wasn't it the same "Guy", that put John Mcguiness down before the 2007 TT, before getting cuffed by McGuiness in the whole event? :nenau

NOT WORTH THE MONEY?????

YOU ALL MUST BE KIDDING!!!!!!!!!

Admitted i am slightly biased as i work for BM but come on guys, this is a cheap bike, and you know it!!!! Anyone who says its expensive has either never seen it or secretly desires one but cant afford it!!!

The thing is a work of art, and all very functional to hoot. It's not just another bike full of useless 'bling', the germans have never been guilty of doing that, IT JUST WORKS!!

Just out of interest, Ducati make a similar machine that retails at 24K!!!!!!!

It is forward sold for 1 year, and would have been a cheap bike at 20K!!!!

Anyone who has one is a lucky so & so and will thoroughly enjoy it!

Smudge.

Damm that looks good. I really like the look of it.
Im just curious, a question to all you enginnering types out there.

This HP2 seems to have the same frame as the original HP2 Enduro aka Paris Dakar frame.

I wondering, the PD frame is for offroad use, how does that compare to racetrack use?

Obviously the frame is damm strong, but is thats all thats necessary.
I seem to recall that some manufacturers induce flex into their frame and some dont. Surely this frame is optimised for offroad use.

Comments?

Same colour, different frame, very diffent............

The HP2 is a seriously mint 'bike........:thumb2

But it isn't a watercooled V twin 'Homologation special' with traction control, that is busily cleaning up in World Superbike.......:augie

It depends what you are looking for.

It does not have the power of some cheaper bikes.(I do realise ultimate power is not the whole story and other factors must be considered)

carbon fibre (good stuff) is expensive

DOHC is interesting

Will it still have the front cover corrosion problems.

Why did BMW choose the boxer engine instead of the K1200 engine at 167bhp(I am not sure of the comparative power curves and this may have influenced the choice).

I have seen one and even had a deposit one one -I can afford it - I have over 24K worth of BMW bikes- but the bike is not what I am looking for.

And to be another of the boring I4s you can see and hear everywhere, and still can't beat the other 1000cc I4 on the street that can do over 180bhp? The same goes to all the V-twins that are dead boring, fundamentally, in the same way - there's just too many of them from too many makes.

So it remains truly original compared to others. It's a boxer - a state of mind. And it's the only true boxer sportbike on the planet currently, with all that expensive 'bling' factor. A truly inspiring concept, if you look at the overall package as a sportsbike - boxer engine, single sided swingarm with shaft drive and the telelever front. A combination that no one else has. The bike is definitely not about the engine performance.

So you can't bash BMW here with their choice IMHO. I reckon they did the very correct choice by not going with the flow with the others by making another affordable (=boring, non-exclusive) sportsbike, sell them zillion and be another member of the boring uninspiring lot.

Arsey,

that new bike of yours looks the bollocks :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

Thanks,but it aint mine.

That's my dealer's demo.

I think this is my fav Tsiklonaut quote yet.

In 2 lines he deduces that all inline fours and all V twins are boring. No mention of singles or triples though !!!

Shame it's just another boring V twin and not a Boxer !!

That's what I call an angle of dangle :bow

....because they'd get their arse well and truly kicked by competing in the IL4 game. I've had a go on the K1200S and it isn't up to much.

Thus they went for the boxer engine and can claim to be 'unique' and hence its difficult to draw parallels and hence measure relative performance. It was the obvious choice for BMW as the boxer engine is their unique selling point.

None of this detracts from the fact that the HP2 Sport is a special bike. Whether its 'worth' £14k depends on how much value what it is/does.

I'm sure it'll do better than the R1200S - BMW have warehouses full of those unsold!!!!

It can't do much worse.

Our local dealer had a R1200S in stock for over a year.

They even dropped the price a fair bit.

In the end it got returned to BMW.

I still haven't ever seen one on the roads, either in the UK or europe, including 2 recent trips to Germany.

Hi Arsey,

Yes indeed I can confirm that from the engine concept side, not about triples tho. :beerjug:

Singles, I4, V2, I2 - unoriginal, boring and uninspiring, they're everywhere.

B2, B4, B6, V4, V6, V8, Triples, Rotors - original and inspiring by concept.

One of the definitions of originality:

Allow me to retort. I rode my heavily modified
ZX-10R to the BMW dealer and rode off in the rain on the HP2S
and I haven’t stopped grinning yet.

Blah blah blah
AAaarrgghhhh!

Get a big black one up ya, yer lucky git.

Yonkyo your bike is stunning. I have seen it in Bristol Motorrad and everyone was frightened to touch it. Every little detail on those carbon fibre bits and pieces is awesome

Enjoy!
:D
